This is why I got out of semiconductors and moved into the computer manufacturing industry.  The further out on the supply chain you get, the worse the "bullwhip effect" becomes.  Being closer to the final product and end-user customer, minimizes that volatility.
Yeah, and it generally was never as MUCH of a boom/bust on the HDD side as it is in flash. Until the pandemic, when the biggest datacenter companies in the world kept buying HDDs expecting to deploy them but couldn't get OTHER parts of their supply chain until they all collectively realized they were sitting on massive inventories and said "nah, we don't need to buy for a while". And then hit their own economic troubles, and THEN got distracted by the shiny thing (AI) and decided to spend as much of their investment as possible on compute and try to extend their storage utilization farther rather than spend CapEx on storage.

The good news is that towards the end of this calendar year we should at least return to growth, with the demand situation normalizing by mid-2024. So as long as I keep my job another few months, I should be safe.

Of course, with HDD supplier CapEx being restrained to maintain cash during this downturn, and with demand potentially jumping as companies need to buy more storage to reduce their storage utilization levels, we might get into shortages. Those are a lot more fun from the supplier end lol.

anyone catch the Swamp Kings doc yet on Netflix about Urbz, Tebow, and their run at Florida? It's a 4 part series and I'm 3 in and it just seems like nothing but a puff piece extoling the virtues of Urban Meyer and lionizing him as a patron saint of college football, father figure to these fatherless kids from the ghetto, an all-around amazing human being who also just happens to be a hard ass football coach and just loves to win him some football games but also really hates to lose! Whatta swell guy!

Completely glosses over Hernandez, the insane amount of arrests and off-field issues, Percy Harvin beating the actual fk out of one of their coaches, and just how absolutely reckless, out of control, and wild that team was- and how Urbz looked the other way and didn't give a flying you know what bc they were winning at an insane clip.

Typical Netflix product....it's fkn trash that sucks ass.

Yeah, in my forecasting role I've called the bottom of the current valley and the turnaround toward growth as mid-Q4.  And things should really be cooking by Q2 of next year-- I've already placed heavy forecasts on my suppliers for March-August or so.

LONDON (AP) — Google, Facebook, TikTok and other Big Tech companies operating in Europe must comply with one of the most far-reaching efforts to clean up what people see online.

The European Union’s groundbreaking new digital rules took effect Friday for the biggest platforms. The Digital Services Act is part of a suite of tech-focused regulations crafted by the 27-nation bloc — long a global leader in cracking down on tech giants.

The DSA is designed to keep users safe online and stop the spread of harmful content that’s either illegal or violates a platform’s terms of service, such as promotion of genocide or anorexia. It also looks to protect Europeans’ fundamental rights like privacy and free speech.

They buy and use MASSIVE amounts of compute and storage.  They're also heavily into developing algorithms, data anlaysis, and these days AI.  They're definitely high tech companies.

Ya I really wasn't Big on him coming in Gatorama had him figured out - URBZ narcisist tendencies kept bleeding thru.Great coach and recruiter but once he got a a Championship head line he seemingly got to complacent and/or arrogant. Tried bs'ing adults like they were kids, should have stayed hungry & focused like Saban. but he did reel in Day who brought back Hartline so they've stayed competitive

honestly I was pissed watching that Netflix doc on Florida bc that had so much potential to be incredible and it probably would've been incredible had it been done by HBO or even a 30 for 30 by ESPN. There was SO much shit they should've dove into and they just glossed right over it or completely ignored it. Shit could've been the greatest cfb sports doc ever. It's just a rehabilitation PR campaign blowjob fest of Urban Meyer. Fk Netflix to hell forever.

Cindy use to get it and could at least fetch some old movies. We watched Holy Grail and Kelly's Heroes with it. But they changed things up and charge xtra for some of the content

To be honest I had you pegged as a Netflix fan due to their support for stand up comedy... They even stood up to the woke with the Chappelle special.

the stand up specials are the only reason I haven't canceled Netflix. They keep raising the price and now I think for screen sharing I'm paying $26/mo. I remember the glory days when it was $10/mo, there was no extra charge for screen sharing, and they weren't pumping out their own god awful horseshit just to have content but instead were licensing the best tv & movie products from every major studio. Nothing lasts forever....

HBO still seems to do it right. That new Game of Thrones series was OK but it has potential- and it's still miles better than anything Netflix is doing. Then of course HBO has some real outstanding new shows like Last of US and Righteous Gemstones- which both shit all over anything that Netflix has ever done or ever could hope to do.
