Yeah, and this is the guy who the head of B12 officiating reports to.  I'm sure all the games are going to be called clean and fair.

If this stuff is being said publicly, then what's being said behind closed doors?

Heisman voters seem to be among the worst ranking bodies in existence, but only because of what the Heisman proports to reward.
"The most outstanding player"
If that was true, half the Heismans would have been given to linemen and LBs.  With 80-something awarded, there should be like 12 Charles Woodsons.
All they have to do is change the description.

they both had amazing seasons. VY threw for over 3,000 yards in an era where that was kind of a big deal. He also ran for over 1,000 yards. Give me the generational QB over the generational RB everyday of the week and twice on Saturdays.

I agree 100%. There should have been multiple defensive players to have won it. Ndamukong Suh should've won it in 2009. Mark Ingram was probably the weakest winner I can recall in recent memory.

Woodson only got the award because he moonlighted sparringly on offense and special teams- and every time he happened to moonlight it was in big games and he made big plays with the ball in his hands. He would've deserved it just as a CB alone- he was that insanely good- but he would've never gotten a whiff let alone won it had he not gotten that run on O/STs and scored TD's in big games.

yeah, it's not a great look. low class and honestly can't believe a commissioner of a major sports league actually said that publicly. and I can't blame OU/TX for wanting to get off that sinking ship for greener pastures in the SEC...

The narrative stuff went to VY after the RB.  Bush's season was superior.
8.7 ypc on 200 carries is nuts.
.
Players like Troy Davis get the shaft.  People don't seem to understand that he had his seasons while not facing Iowa State's horrible defense, while everyone else in his conference did.  That Coleman kid at IU....same thing.
.
Herschel Walker has mostly been considered the top RB of all time because no one had ever had the volume and production he did in just 3 seasons....until Jonathan Taylor.  As noted in a previous post, Taylor suffered from underwhelming performances in his biggest games.
We have the game logs for Walker, but he didn't have a "big game" in 1980 until the Sugar Bowl.  UGA played a pretty shit schedule.  But vs a great ND rush D, he went for 150 yards and 2 TDs despite a separated shoulder on the 2nd play.  Much like Vince Young, Walker would have probably won the Heisman if it was held post-bowl, even as a true FR.

Young scored 38 total TDs.
Just 2 years later, Tebow won it with 55 TDs.

The fact that Woodson echoed Desmond Howard with a punt return TD vs OSU is one of those "you just have to shrug and give it to him" things.

I just re-watched it, and Keith Jackson and Greise are lauding the punter leading up to the return, lol.

gee, I wonder how the guy that followed Troy Davis did in 1997?

maybe not 2,000 yards?
just a guess
Troy's brother, Darren Davis, rushed for 1,005 yards and 5 TDs.  4.7 ypc.
He went on to have 2 more 1000 yard seasons on a ton of carries.
So technically, he had more 1000 yard seasons than Troy did, lol (but 600 fewer yards overall).

stats don't tell the entire story. for one Florida had a lot more talent at the skill positions around Tebow than VY had around him at Texas. Tebow also had a better system/coaches scheming things up with Urban Meyer- whose offense was revolutionary at that time. VY was far more talented. Had a much better arm and was far more explosive as a runner.

Look Tebow was a great college player, not taking anything away from him, but Tebow wasn't even the best player on his own offense. Percy Harvin was. I was at the Mich-UF bowl game. I was at the OU-UF national title game. I saw Tebow throw live. Tebow was NOT a good passer- I'll just leave it at that and be kind. Anybody with a set of eye balls could see he'd never be an NFL QB.

Percy Harvin to this day might be the fastest human being and biggest freak show and with the football in his hands that I've ever seen in person at a college football game. The speed he moved at was not normal. Complete freak show. How many of Tebow's rush TD's were from near the goal-line when he became basically a glorified fullback and punched it in? How many of his pass TD's were dumps, screens, or swings he threw behind the LOS or 3 yards in the air and Percy Harvin took to the house?

VY had WAY more pop in his arm to push the ball downfield and he was WAY more explosive and dangerous as a runner with the football in his hands. Plus dude was 6'5/6'6 and could RUN. Freak show. Generational talent. Dude made the Pro Bowl as a rookie and was the NFL rookie of the year. Damn shame he had to have a complete asshole failure of a head coach perennial loser .500 retread offensively retarded/challenged Jeff Fisher as his NFL coach and ruin what should've been an outstanding NFL career.
