Only reason I can think is that this didn't involve something "gay", it involved "trans". I was talking to a very good friend last weekend and his wife was saying that they were thinking of sending their kids to private school or home-schooling because the schools are telling little boys they might be girls and vice versa. Which... As a parent of 3 in a MUCH more liberal state than where they live (NC), I've heard none of this. But it's something that she finds so terrifying that she's talking about home-schooling to avoid it.

It's easy to lump all of LGBTQ+ into one group. But although most of the country has learned that LGB isn't the big scary bogeyman that they thought it was 20 years ago, "T" still very much is. So bigotry is still "safe" when it comes to that one.
This is an excellent point and is probably the root of it.

Even on this site, the most serious reactions are coming from the perspective of "men are men and women are women regardless of cutting off penises."

I'm not bothered by the LGB stuff, but I'm also not bothered by the T stuff, so it doesn't hit any different to me.

I think some of it is that we are just a lot more politics forward in terms of personalities for a lot of people.

Bud Light spiking the football on gay marriage was a thing, but it didn’t inspire backlash as a cause in the same way.

Eh. I think it was because the ship had already sailed on gay marriage.

I've got a saying. "Bigotry loves company." It's easy to be openly bigoted when that's the majority position. But there's a tipping point, and once it's reached, people walk that crap back FAST.

In 2005 it was easy to find people who were openly against gay marriage. I'm sure many still exist. How many will openly admit that now in 2023?

We're at the 2005 level when it comes to dealing with the trans community. Maybe even the 1995 level.

@eltigrerex ? Never heard of the guy.

Although I had a dream that I once shared some Live Oak beer with him.

Speaking of which, for any of you that were at that board meeting in Austin, and might recall that I missed out on some of the festivities because I had a newborn baby at the time (who did make an appearance at the tailgate along with my i s c & a aggie wife)... well... that baby turns 16 and will be an officially licensed driver next month.

She's a really great driver, we take her out driving all the time.  She's smart and conscientious, so experience is all she lacks, and we're constantly working on that.

Her 13-yo brother on the other hand... whew.  I'm just glad we still have a while to prepare for that.

Our daughter is 4 years older then her brother and really learned to drive from drivers ed

we really spent very little time teaching her how to drive

Our son on the other hand didnt pick it up very well from drivers ed and we had many sessions in empty parking lots for his driving education as well as driving around on Sunday mornings

Its amazing how different your kids can be

Agree with a lot of what you're saying, but in my part of the country at least, Bud Light is very much a redneck beer.
So Lonestar or Pabst put Dylan up to it?
