So, they might use used wine barrels after wine makers dispose of them?  Enough said ...:)

Interesting discussion, I'm learning stuff.

To me, this is pretty over simplified, but it covers the basics.  What about malolactic fermentation?  Secondary fermentation?  Riddling?  Type of oak barrels used and for how long?  Making a rose'?  Which yeast to use?  Which alcohol level to achieve?  What kind of cork to use?  Which pretty label do you pay for?

Four wine makers given the exact same batch of grapes COULD make rather different wines from them.
Of course. That's why I moved away from the word "complex" related to the two. There is a TON of complexity involved in winemaking. A ton of interpretation and choice.

That said, I'm guessing that most winemakers look at winemaking as "how do I let this particular crop of grapes express their qualities in the best way?"

Most brewers are thinking more of a recipe based on ingredients that are supposed to be homogenized. I don't worry about which state Great Western Malting sourced their Barley, and which farm my Simcoe hops came from.

Brewing beer involves more process steps and more ingredients than making wine.

I don't feel it's an insult to wine, to say that the process of beer-making is more complex than the process of wine-making.

It doesn't mean that the resulting wines don't have tremendous complexity and variety, because obviously they do.

They seem incomparable to me, really, without a lot of assumptions, both are complex, I'd be fine with letting it go with that.  Can you get a college degree in making beer?

Obviously, the high end wines are usually produced in situ, they use grapes from the estate (there are exceptions), so the viniculture is a factor as well in terms of how the grape are grown and tended.  They have experts just for that part of their equation.  If all the hops and barleys are about the same thing, it's not the case with wine obviously.

Interesting discussion, I'm learning stuff.
For example, here are some recipes of award-winning American IPAs. So bear in mind this is just ONE subcategory (American IPA) of ONE style of beer (IPA).

https://byo.com/article/awardwinning-ipa-recipes/

You can see a lot of different malts, a lot of different hop amounts and hopping schedules.

You can also see things like a single recipe giving a choice of yeast. I.e. you can use Wyeast 1056, White Labs WLP001, or SafAle US-05 yeast. It's the same strain of yeast, cultured and maintained by three different companies. With two being liquid yeast and one being dry yeast. The beer should turn out the same whichever you use.

In homebrew competition, judging is based upon the Beer Judges Certification Program style guidelines. They have 34 different "styles" for judging, with as few as 2 subcategories under each style and as many as a half-dozen or more. Although some of those styles like Specialty Beer are a sort of catch-all for things that don't fit elsewhere, and others like Fruit Beer is usually referring to variants of another established style, but with an addition like fruit.

Beer is pretty much FAR more variable in styles and flavors than wine... Many argue that this variability means there is a lot more optionality and variability in trying to do a gastronomic "beer pairing dinner" than trying to pair wine with food.

The head-gear picks will go ahead as scheduled this fall, as legendary college football analyst Lee Corso will be on site for the start of the 2023 season when ESPN's College GameDay kicks off in Week 1, the network announced.

ESPN said that College GameDay will premier this season from Charlotte, N.C., where North Carolina and South Carolina will renew their rivalry in the regular season opener, the first stop for the long-time show, which will once again feature Corso as a full-time analyst and game picker for this season.

Rece Davis will resume his position as the host of College GameDay, with analysis from Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, and Pat McAfee. College football insider Pete Thamel will provide news updates, and Jen Lada and Jess Sims will be featured as reporters.

Corso, 87, missed five editions of College GameDay last season, first on Oct. 1 in Clemson when he woke up feeling unwell, and then again for the Kansas trip the following weekend.

Corso also missed the show's visit to Jackson State and the clash between Georgia and Tennessee, when GameDay was in Athens, Ga.

A featured analyst on the GameDay program since its inception in 1987, Corso suffered a stroke in 2009, suffering partial paralysis, and requiring three days of intensive care followed by a week's stay in the hospital.

The stroke impacted Corso's speech, as he was unable to talk for a month after the incident. Since returning to the air, he has been scripting his appearances on the program.

Yes. UC-Davis has a very well known brewing program.

I mailed a letter to my kid in Columbus two weeks ago.  Yesterday, he got an email from USPS that the letter would arrive today, two weeks later.  It didn't.  He gets an email showing the mail he's supposed to receive the next day.

I have that feature. I don’t know why I like it, but I kind of do.

We got word a few days ago that a transformer outside our building is running hot and they have to replace it, tonight, hopefully for 6-8 hours as promised, so we'll have no power.  I'm running the temperature inside down now in prep.

I survived my second pilates reformer session, and my fifth pitching session with Pete.

The technique of pitching reminds me (and him) a lot of golf, you have to commit a bunch of things to muscle memory so you can focus on one thing, which is location.  It's important in real estate I hear.

My release has been awful for 60 years I'd guess, and it's tough to correct it.  I focus on that and then my arm angle is wrong, or my weight is wrong, or balance is off, or follow through is off ...

I am throwing a pretty decent slider now and change up.  Of course, a change up for me is, well, pretty slow.
