I would, and I have.  Parts of New Jersey are pretty nice, parts of course are not.  Vermont is fine.  Washington and Oregon have some good wine country and mountains.  I do agree the criteria appear to be, um, selected and weighted so as to produce that output.

Fortunately, this is another kind of ranking no one really pays any attention to.  I use CNBC pretty often just to get stock quotes without logging on, I don't view them as particularly biased politically.

There are beautiful parts to pretty much every state.  

But between high taxes, not recognizing crime as illegal, and numerous other crazy policies- no thanks

Usually, when visiting, local politics don't  have a lot to do with one's visitation.  Now, if crime is very high, you probably won't be prone to visiting.  I'd have no problem visiting any of the US states, I would likely avoid certain cities and definitely certain areas.

I've been to 49 states (not ND).  There are several I enjoy VISITING but would not live there.

I've always avoided big cities

I'll avoid them much more going forward

My daughter is in Minneapolis, brother in the Dallas/Ft Worth metro
I visited the eastern outskirt of Denver a few months back
Visited San Diego waterfront a few months back

This is interesting. I'd say give it a go and see what happens. As we've discussed, college isn't for everyone anymore.
