I don't think nuclear power is like immigration at all.

We've proven that nuclear power works.

We've proven that we suck at immigration.

Only need two in the Senate, and they are probably there.
I think you'd face a filibuster in the Senate, and a probable Presidential veto anyway.  It's optics.  Immigration is about optics as well.  Both "sides" have entrenched themselves in optics for the most part.

nukes just have the fear of 3-mile and chernobyl
I think much of that can be over come with some logic and the larger fear of global warming

Notice the fear mongers and shriller Congressmen and women don't seem to get much legislation passed.

I really don't think "logic" has much of a role in any of this kind of thing.  I've chatted with some anti-nuclear types, some with a technical background, they simply don't want it, end of story, no "logic" or fact pattern seems able to change that.  Democrats by and large would not support any significant nuclear effort, they won't, the optics preclude that.  They have largely sold their base that W&S is the only thing we need.

Yeah, when it's OPM, who really cares how much you're throwing around?

The won't fail miserably, I suspect.  The various power companies will do "stuff" that makes sense to them.  Some of it will fail miserably I suspect, in time.  Some areas COULD get into a situation where brownouts become more common.  Then folks will react accordingly.

But the problems will be pretty easy to foresee and will happen on a smaller scale and others will avoid them.

I saw an interesting opinion piece the other day that said that when asked in a professional survey, only 3-4% of Democrats or Republicans believe that violence is appropriate if the "other side" wins, but that about 48-50% think that the other side thinks it is.

As Badge is fond of saying, the reality is that we are a much more moderate and unified nation than the agitators would have you believe, but the agitation has led to a great deal more mistrust of "the other side" than we have previously had. This is an interesting conundrum that I truly hope that our leaders--on both sides--will work to remedy.

I know that in politics--as in any competition--the actors play to win, but unlike other competitions, the overarching point of politics isn't supposed to be winning, it's supposed to be good governance. If that's not what the politician is in it for, then they shouldn't be in it. Alas, we all have different opinions about who that last statement should apply to, and unquestionably, power is a corrupting influence.

This is almost 3 years old now, and it's still true.

Maybe "we" could throw agitators in prison.

The leaders on both sides are not working to remedy anything.

it will fail miserably at the goal of shutting down coal plants by 2050 and all other goals of the Paris Agreement

Does anyone else get really annoyed by people who include "<time zone> standard time" when scheduling things when we're on DST?

I just had it happen with a customer, so I couldn't snarkily correct them. But they were wanting to schedule a meeting for 4:30 EST in a little over a week.

So... Will it show up on my calendar at 1:30 PDT? I think it will. But 4:30 EST will be 12:30 PDT.

I'm pretty sure they asked about 4:30 EST because they don't realize what that S means and that we're not currently on it.

I just replied and said "4:30 Eastern will work for me".
