It's also a less expensive.  The average cost of electricity is about 17 cents, it's about 12 cents here, per kWhr.

The average EV needs about 35 kWhrs to go 100 miles.  So, about $6 per hundred miles national average.  Figure gasoline at $3.50 and 33 mpg and you need $10.50 in gas.

And herein lies an issue, using those averages if my math is OK.  You save $4.50 per hundred miles,  $540 per 12 thousand miles, great.  But the EV is gonna cost more right now, quite a bit more, which is why they still need these tax credits.  Is my math right?

You also save on brakes and oil changes as well.  The matter about battery replacement costs is still all over the place.

Anchor Brewing has shut down.

https://www.beervanablog.com/beervana/2023/7/12/anchor-brewing-1896-2023

Often described as the oldest operating "craft brewery" in America, and absolutely one of the ones that kicked off the craft movement when Fritz Maytag took it over and started brewing "steam beer", it's one that I am sad to see go.

Granted, I feel my own pang of guilt, because while I'm very sad to see it gone, it's not like I can even remember the last time I've bought an Anchor beer. I think I might have bought a big bottle of Christmas Ale a few years back, but you probably have to go several years farther since I've had Anchor Steam. So I guess I was part of the problem.

But it's still sad as hell.

That's the issue here. Electricity costs have gone insane. Gas is also more expensive here than almost everywhere else, but not anywhere near electricity costs.

Last month I averaged 35.5 c/kWh. So that's $12.44 to go 100 miles.

Gas here was $4.55/gal yesterday at Costco. Assuming that same 33.3 (for the math) mpg, it's $13.65 to go 100 miles.

So barely any savings at all.

Yikes. I was at 515 kWh last month and my bill was $183.

And now we're getting into the time of year that we're going to have to run AC. I'm expecting a few bills in the $500 range if last year was any indication.

I'm guessing my average would be around $75-80

Darn, I'm sad to see it go as well.

I typically get some Anchor Christmas each year, but other than that I don't really buy their beers either.  So many great local options for me, I don't buy out of state all that often.

So, I blame you Californians for their demise.  Shame, shame, shame.

What was the unique process - an ale that was lagered or sumsuch?

Kinda the opposite, bottom-fermenting lager yeasts, but at ale-fermenting temps.  Had a distinct flavor, I liked it pretty well but not well enough to drink much of it once there were a million other craft beer options.
