I used to listen to some shows while driving to and from work, a variety of "talkers".  They mostly talked.  I got bored, but mostly I wanted to understand a bit about the personalities involved as folks would tell me I needed to listen to X.  I recall listening to Rush Limbaugh rattle papers and say I wasn't going to believe the next story once he came back from break.  Somebody told me I should listen to Hannity so I listened to his shrill voice a few times saying "Unbelievable" about 70 times a minute.  Bill Bennett had a much quieter still conservative radio show for a while.  I don't think anybody listened to him.  Terry Gross had one that often was pretty interesting on NPR.  She had Chuck Yeager on one time.

A police killing caught on video. Protests and rioting fueled by long-simmering tensions over law enforcement treatment of minorities. Demands for accountability.

The events in France following the death of a 17-year-old shot by police in a Paris suburb are drawing parallels to the racial reckoning in the U.S. spurred by the killings of George Floyd and other people of color at the hands of law enforcement.

Despite the differences between the two countries’ cultures, police forces and communities, the shooting in France and the outcry that erupted there this week laid bare how the U.S. is not alone in its struggles with systemic racism and police brutality.

If folks don't listen to Talk Radio, how could they possibly know what to think about things?

I used to listen to AM 780 (WBBM) when I lived up North. It was all news - no editorials.

Before that it was AM 720 for me. WGN. Same.

We all done now?

On Friday, Roberts released the Supreme Court’s opinion blocking Biden's student loan forgiveness plan, one of the president's major campaign promises.

In the opinion, Roberts cited then-Speaker Pelosi’s words saying the president did not have the power to cancel federal student loan debt.

"As then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi explained: ‘People think that the President of the United States has the power for debt forgiveness. He does not,’" Roberts quoted Pelosi’s July 28, 2021, press conference. "‘He can postpone. He can delay. But he does not have that power. That has to be an act of Congress.’"

Why the White House thinks new student loan plan will hold up in court | The Hill

No, they are trying again, I don't know how this new angle works at all.

The new effort is grounded in the Higher Education Act (HEA), unlike the first effort rooted in the Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students (HEROES) Act, which the administration argued they could use due to the national emergency established during the COVID-19 pandemic.
When the Supreme Court struck down the program Friday, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the court’s majority opinion that the HEROES Act does not grant the authority to provide student debt relief.
He invoked the so-called “major questions doctrine,” which the court uses to require that Congress give clear authorization for the executive branch to implement matters of vast economic and political significance.
White House officials argued Friday that the HEA route is more likely to hold up against that doctrine. Democrats and advocates have argued the HEA would allow the education secretary to compromise, waive or release student loans.
“From where it stands now, we think the … Higher Education Act pathway that we talked about today is going to be a valid pathway that conforms with the major questions doctrine issue that the Supreme Court raised today,” said Bharat Ramamurti, deputy director for the National Economic Council.

That includes Gwinette County in GA, second largest county by population in the state.

A recently passed bill in Michigan could make it a felony to intimidate someone by intentionally using the wrong gender pronouns, according to some legal experts.

It seems unenforcable to me, and pointless.  How can one discern one's intentions?

How?  Just reporting facts.
So, the headline is "Michigan House passes bill that could make using wrong pronouns a felony, fineable up to $10,000." And that conclusion is a stretch of speculation.

I pulled up the actual law. It's a hate crime bill. It mostly deals with actual violence or destruction of property, enhancing punishments if you're nakedly carrying it out in a targeted manner. The only route by which using the wrong pronouns is a felony is if you're already assaulting or intimidating someone or damaging their property, and you'll have to make clear you're doing it becuase you don't like them for their gender whatnot. The bar for "intimidation" is not exactly low in a country with free speech protections.

I think it's a plenty stupid law, but you have to be a bit of a bad actor to imply that it's gonna make using the wrong pronouns a felony. It's an addendum to an older law, that covered race, religion, gender or ethnic origin. Michigan wasn't arresting folks who called other people slurs for felonies, so we're probably safe here.

Here's the law: http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(ng5w0xum1idje3hlh02qam5b))/documents/2023-2024/billcurrentversion/House/PDF/2023-HCVBS-4474-0O3311.pdf
