We had an interesting experience in Israel visiting a kibbutz.  Our "guide" went on and on about how great it was because everyone shared everything.  It basically was small scale communism, as he described it.  He mentioned at one point that a few folks took advantage and did little or nothing which of course is the Achilles heel of that approach.  But if you have perfect people ...

My experience with a Big Company I compared to communism at times, a lot of folks did little or nothing.  The laughed at anyone who actually tried because they'd watch them rarely getting promoted.  The "bosses" were the worst offenders, work ethic got better as you went down the chain.  It was very rare that anyone was fired, and then it was usually "for cause".  One old motto is "root hog or die", which describes how humans are motivated.

Humans need incentives to work.

MARTA picks designer for streetcar extension into Atlanta BeltLine | Urbanize Atlanta

The current streetcar thing here is a complete bust, I fear this extension could remain that way, and take up room now being used for walking/biking/etc.  The Cincy streetcar was/is also a bust.  Now, MAYBE this is sufficient to get more ridership, maybe, hopefully.  I'm dubious.  Maybe someday they extend it up to Lindberg and Emory.  MAYBE that would be a thing.

Now they have busses, MARTA cars, and streecars to maintain and repair.  It would be more efficient of course to have just MARTA cars (and busses).

ttps://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/37901369/les-miles-hall-fame-eligibility-hurt-lsu-vacated-wins

LSU football vacated the wins from 2012 to 2015 because of recruiting violations stemming from impermissible benefits paid to the father of former player Vadal Alexander by a former booster. The school self-imposed the penalty, which was revealed for the first time Thursday, after receiving a notice of allegations from the NCAA in March 2022. Alexander competed for LSU from 2012 to 2015.

Miles, who coached LSU from 2005 to 2016, went 114-34 at the school and won a national title in 2007. His overall coaching record at Oklahoma State, LSU and Kansas had been 145-73, a winning percentage of .665. Coaches must have a career winning percentage of .600 in at least 100 games to qualify for selection to the College Football Hall of Fame.

Supreme Court upholds ban on encouraging illegal immigration | The Hill
Would like to see a lawyer’s read on it, but that description is odd. Or the law’s language is just weird.

The law bans people from "encouraging or inducing" illegal immigration. This guy scams a bunch of would be immigrants into paying money to be "adopted" and then becoming United States citizens. He is very properly convicted under the statute. But he says this statute is unconstitutional - it also appears to ban conduct protected under the First Amendment, like saying illegal immigration is a stupid concept and the more immigrants we have the better (things I've said on this board). He says the law should be thrown out and his convictions overturned.

Courts can allow people, even evil scammers like this guy, to challenge the law as being overbroad, in that it prohibits conduct allowed by the Constitution. This is justified by the idea that if we let Congress just make any old law outlawing anything, good proper citizens will follow the law even though it is illegal and then it will never be properly challenged. Indeed, the Ninth Circuit found the law was overbroad and shouldn't be valid. SCOTUS overturned this, saying "encouraging" and "inducing" only apply to non-protected conduct like what this guy did.

So here is some "in other news"

Sports gambling has opened in many states- this after jersey and later others joining that case took it to the Supreme Court that Vegas ought not be allowed to be the only legal sports book in the nation.

Yeah... fair... all that... not.

Crypto and off shore books put a hurtin on the Vegas books and, like dope (grass) the desire for another tax stream is pushing it.

Bunches of states do it now, and with various rules.

I wasn't going to pay the pact including new jersey $100k annually for a license and then have to go there physically to cash a check... so I wait for NC to pass some form... its been in the legislation and punted to the next session several times now.

It looks like it's going to clear this time.

I'll be studying on the policies.

There will be gambling here.  Or, maybe and perhaps there will be gambling on another site such as cfb51-line was originally going to be before it got punted one year.  One or the other, maybe that'll cover the costs of this place.  I know me and two others that would like to see more than just the costs covered....  but at what cost?

Decision time approaches.

*something realistic

Don't say we haven't invaded Canada, because it would be a waste of time to do that and wouldn't yield anything.
You live in a freakin' desert,Canada is georgeous - walleye/perch/pike/fresh water and lots of it. And French Canadian Chics are gorgeous/glorious.
Suburbia:Where they tear out the trees & then name streets after them.
