Changing direction here.

This is a big deal. The vessel in question was not a USCG approved vessel, which to me is a major problem. Being a licensed USCG Master Captain I can plainly state that you cannot take passengers on a vessel for hire without certification. There must have been some loophole - MAYBE??

The USCG and other agencies, including Canada, are spending a lot of time and money on this search.

Regardless of outcome, someone has to pay, and this organization must be stopped.

Enough money and you can do anything!

Supposedly the CEO of OceanGate is also the submersible pilot, and is likely going to pay with his life for this.

This is not what I read. He chose to pay "kids" to pilot the vessel rather than "old" sub pilots. The "kids" are more inspirational.

I have not read anything about the origin. The company is based in Washington State.

Obviously this is Wikipedia, but it claims he's one of the people aboard. I ended up on Wiki to find out about the company, and then it had a link to the current event page...

Did not realize he was a passenger. Maybe he should have had a pilot...

I've read a few articles on this and have more questions than answers.

Initial reports seemed to suggest that it either imploded or got trapped. Either would imply that it was at the bottom. However, I read somewhere that they lost contact when it should have been about 1/2 way down. That almost certainly means it didn't implode and there wouldn't be anything to get trapped by.

There have been reports of pounding at half hour increments which means those on board are alive (assuming the noise is coming from them) but it is obviously unclear what caused the issues and finding something that small 2.5mi below the surface is a tall order to say the least.

I've read that they should have enough oxygen to stay alive until sometime Thursday so at this point it is still a search and rescue mission but if they are not retrieved within about 24 hours it will be downgraded to a search for bodies and other evidence.

And use an old video game controller to steer

I saw that too, this morning. Seems like a contraption for sure. I would not consider it at all.
