True. But Biden isn't going to pardon Hunter.

If Biden pardons Hunter, I'll eat my words.

(Bearing in mind that POTUS can only pardon federal charges, and I'm assuming that the tax evasion charges at the very least are federal, so they're within his purview.)
Agreed.  Never thought that or implied it.

The penalty is, I presume, to pay back taxes and a fine of some sort, right?  I know that is typically what happens if you "forget" some income and they catch it.  Now, "forgetting" over a million in two years running is a bit different.  Anyway, I don't see what a pardon would accomplish here, it's not a felony conviction.

What exactly is the theory behind Hunter getting a "sweetheart" deal? It would have been much easier to not charge him at all.
or waterboard him

They did not have too charge him. Who was calling for charges for old tax violations and a weird gun possession charge? Literally no one.
With this admin? A weird gun charge?

The only thing weird about the charge, under this mega whacko anti-gun administration is that he isn't gonna do ten years.

Bob Huggins resigns as West Virginia coach in wake of arrest

Bob Huggins has resigned as the men's basketball coach at West Virginia in the wake of his arrest Friday night for allegedly driving under the influence.

Huggins announced he was stepping down in a statement Saturday night in which he said, "My recent actions do not represent the values of the University or the leadership expected in this role. ... I have let all of you -- and myself -- down."

Of course they do.  But in this case- nobody, including HB himself, or his attorneys- has even tried to claim innocence.  In fact- quite the opposite.   They admit lying on the gun paperwork- and that is an irrefutable document.  They admit he didn’t pay taxes he owed.   There is no dispute there.

I mean, I’m just gaging you one’s feel for all this.

But you’re right, most of this is silly.

Biden's DoJ has had a major hard on for firearm violations yet HB walks?  Lying on that form is a felony.  If you did it, you would go to prison.  Same likely goes for intentionally not declaring over a million in income and not paying taxes on it for years.  We live under a two tier justice system.

It's worth noting, based on a recent Supreme Court decision, that particular charge likely doesn't survive appeal.

Predictably, every commentary I read about Hunter's plea deal is partisan.  I personally can't tell if he got favorable treatment.  I don't know of any near parallel in history.  I am curious if he failed to report $1.5 million twice how he only owes something around $100,000 or so.  The taxes on earned income of $3 million would be much higher than that, maybe it's the amount he didn't pay or the fine, or interest, it's not clear to me.
