Not likely the problem that you might think... The issue is thinking in static terms (as OAM tends to do). The assumption is that the existing public schools will just stay there and fail.

The idea of school choice is that the existing public schools will be forced to adapt and improve, or they'll have low enrollment and fail.
Adapt and improve.....with the students from the worst households in terms of all measures.
That's called setting them up for failure.
.
Charter schools might as well be called a failed socialist regime.  They're as likely to be closed down for being corrupt money-making schemes as actual schools.
.
If all of those who try to segregate their children would just populate the neighborhood public school, everything would be better.  Not perfect, not 'fixed,' but better.
But the wealthy kids go to expensive private schools to create a ruling class.  We're gradually making the public schools worse so that we can have a servant class and keep the prisons full.

Maybe we shouldn't have local tax dollars funding schools.  Maybe the poor neighborhood schools should get the same tax dollars as the nicer neighborhood schools.

the wealthy kids go to expensive private schools because....their parents can afford to send them to those better schools. are you suggesting private schools shouldn't be allowed?

The idea of school choice is that the existing public schools will be forced to adapt and improve, or they'll have low enrollment and fail. If they improve, they'll have enough students to survive. If they fail, it would be likely that they get taken over by private owners who can better compete. Either way, they won't be the same failed public schools that exist there today.

If there are kids clustered in an area, there is demand. If there is demand, schools will be sited where they can meet demand.
Well, they do in Chicago, because in Chicago, nobody with enough power gives a rat's ass about the kids.

There are schools -OPEN - 20 percent occupied. The kids are being failed. Period.

plenty of federal dollars get funneled into public school systems. around 14% of all school district budgets come from fed.

Local schools should be run and funded in large part by those LOCAL communities imo.

I'd rather not have the federal swamp unelected bureaucracy gov't- which sucks donkey kong d*ck- try and take over complete funding and complete control of all the schools in the entire country. It would be a complete and utter sh*t show and schools and children would be FAR worse off than they already are.

Start with this, and work forward. I know you like to blame the GOP for a lot of things, but this is not one of those things.

The wealthy kids don't just go to expensive private schools. The wealthy kids don't even live in those neighborhoods. They moved out a long time ago.

Chris Christie apparently going to announce his bid to run for President and go for the GOP Presidential nomination. Lol. This guy is such a loud mouth windbag fat sloppy fk- that no one is going to vote for. Ever.

Can someone get this fat fk a lifetime gift card to Krispy Kreme so he'll just fk off and go away forever? He'd take that bribe imo.

Which was designed to happen through social "engineering".
