They don’t give out many 10/10s

The vehicles are “nice to have” versus “have to have”  and will likely be paired down at or near retirement.

Don’t owe anything on them.  We don’t even drive much out of need-but rather go where roads are bare and drive for pleasure.

It’s like travel for some or other interests- one of ours is performance cars.

Genesis makes some nice vehicles- really nice.  But you’re right- they have increased in price to the extent that is getting difficult to call them bang for the buck.
That's kinda us. I don't do car payments well. It just bugs me. Unless it's 0 interest, maybe.

We'd probably want the GV80, given that we like the M-B GLE. Seems about the same size.

Big difference in price points for these.

When I bought the GTI, they said they could give me a break on the price if I financed it through them.  I figured the catch was some high interest rate, but they quoted 1.9%, so I took it.  This was five years ago, I just finished paying that off.  I mused about paying it off early but figured I could do better than 1.9% elsewhere.  I do hate having loans though, still have one on the condo but it's dropping pretty fast as well.  My wife doesn't like borrowing either, fortuntely.  A marriage won't work well if the spouses don't have similar financial attitudes I think.

I was surprised how good a deal they cut on the GTI relative to MSRP (I figured they might cut a couple thou off, maybe it was because manuals don't move well?)

Makes sense   They rate the GV80 a 10 as well.

I think C&D and R&T do decent jobs, but there are cases where they rate a vehicle up there and an individual just doesn't care for it of course.  I mostly look at what they highlight as potential problem areas or deficiencies and see if they matter much to me.  My wife and I both like some torque.

That’s a great car.  I would gladly drive the new Golf R.  Literally world class driving dynamic ( pleasure) and very reasonably priced.

I drove an R, briefly, it actually had more power than I felt was "needed", ha.  And the gas mileage of course was lower, I thought the GTI would get decent mileage (it does) and didn't need the AWD.  The R also was an automatic which I didn't care for.  Civic makes a nice hot hatch also.

This is one of my vehicles and it is amazing.    Of course I have tweaked it so it is now over 700 HP.  But it’s logic defying how a vehicle of this size can eat up the twistiest or carve a canyon road. Probably due to the active (motorized) roll hardware on each axle and rear steering assist.

Amazing. I thought you had an Audi, but a sedan.

I did. Had a 2019, RS5 below. Last year I sold it and paid cash for the Dodge ram. You see in the photo below. As I said, moving towards retirement vehicles that I will keep and probably only end up with two in the long run.  Probably the Audi SQ8 and the truck.

The Shelby GT500 and the BMW X3M competition will probably just be for another couple years.

Our cab driver in Athens (going to the airport) told me he had an Audi that he "modified" and had a thousand hp, he said.  He was a very good driver, it was early, not much traffic, and he hammered it, asked me if it was OK.  His cab was not the Audi of course.

(My wife couldn't find her passport, so about 5 minutes in we asked him to turn around and go back to the hotel where we checked the room and safe (again).  That was a bit tight.  We got to the airport and she found it in her luggage somewhere fortunately.  He didn't charge us any more for the detour, it was a fixed price 50 EU thing.  I did tip him.)
