kinda shocked those old farts are still alive....especially Keith Richards. The amount of alcohol and drugs that guy has consumed in his life could've wiped out entire small towns.
If it is possible for someone to look even worse in person than they do in Internet pictures, it's Mick and Keith. I saw them in 2015, and they looked like hell then.

Keith was old then

Why California's high-speed rail is taking so long to complete (cnbc.com)
Why California's high-speed rail is taking so long to complete (cnbc.com)

Just shoot it already, it's done, it's been done for years how.  This is ridiculous.

But 15 years later, there is not a single mile of track laid, and executives involved say there isn’t enough money to finish the project. The latest estimates from the California High-Speed Rail Authority suggest it will cost between $88 billion and $128 billion to complete the entire system from LA to San Francisco. Inflation and higher construction costs have contributed to the high price tag.
The project has spent $9.8 billion so far, according to Brian Kelly, CEO of the California High-Speed Rail Authority.

“We knew we’ve had a funding gap ever since the project started,” Kelly said. “What I know is this: The earlier we build it, the cheaper it will be.”
But at this point, it’s not clear where the funding is going to come from. So far, 85% of it has come from the state of California.

I was in Palm Beach last week. I think more and more are moving to Florida permanently, and not going back and forth.

Traffic there was just as bad as over here. Maybe just a little worse.

Much different than in 2021, when things got really light for 6 months. We have some relief now, but not like 2 years ago.
Most definitely.  When I moved here in 2016, there was a “season“.  Not anymore

I still don't understand who wants this damn thing. It's going to be as slow as driving, more inconvenient than flying, and as expensive as flying.

I still saw a lot of out of state plates from Christmas until now. Lots of Ontario too.

All I could think of then I saw them was "GO HOME ALREADY" so I can get a table for dinner.

It has eased up, but not much.

Small children who love trains.

(when I was in high school, my dad insisted we take the train when we went on a one day college visit. I did not particularly care for it)

It's a make work project at this point while feeling good about the environment.  At best, they MIGHT some day use it for freight, but somewhere I read it's not built for that weight.

Freight is fine. We have enormous rail infrastructure for that purpose because of the ports of Long Beach, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

We also have passenger rail between LA and SF. And apparently there are plans to do night trains between the two for people with time to kill and money to burn.

This has always been my experience with rail whenever I've looked into it.

My dad and I thought that taking the train would be kinda neat when we went to the tOSU at Nebraska game and met @FearlessF .  I knew that the Amtrack went through Lincoln and Cleveland so I looked into it.  I don't remember the specifics from then so here they are from now:

The train departs Cleveland at 4:03 am and takes 7:09 to get to Chicago where you sit for almost four hours before departing Chicago at 2pm and taking 10:08 to get to Lincoln just after midnight.  In total the trip takes 21:05.

The return trip departs Lincoln at 3:26 am then has a six hour layover in Chicago and finally gets to Cleveland 25:12 after leaving Lincoln.

By car this is a trip of 853 mi that takes 13 hours and you can leave when it is convenient instead of in the middle of the night.  Now the train MIGHT still be appealing if it was cheaper than driving but it isn't.  The train is $307 PER PERSON PER DIRECTION.  Even if I was driving by myself in a Suburban, gas for the Suburban would be cheaper than the train ticket.
