I tend to lean agnostic on the topic of religion.

I actually had to look up the real definition so I could make sure I know what it really means:
ag·nos·tic

noun

  • a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena; a person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in God.

I think that all religions have a kernel of truth in them.  I think they started out one way, and then morphed into something else along the way.

But there are some really, really smart people I know who are true believers in whatever their religion is.  Christian, Muslim, Buddha, Hindu.  Not like fake believers or people who end emails with a religious verse, but people who are very competent, humble, and successful people who you otherwise would not know are religious but if you get close to them they will tell you all about it in a genuine way.  They don't try to persuade you or convert you.  So that alone has affected my view of religion.

I know there is more out there than what is in the teachings of man, and that includes religious text.

It would be nice if we could discuss policy. But I would suppose that’s impossible because it’s so difficult to do that when so many policies are attributed to a political party.
How about solutions to problems we know are real problems?

We do actually have real problems obviously, and politicians generally know they can't touch them if they want to be reelected.  So, they gin up mostly fake problems, and don't solve them either, but pretend to try while blaming the others for stopping them.

Inflation is primarily in the province of the Fed, though obviously it can be exacerbated by spending in excess of revenue.

Our overall immigration laws are ridiculous in many respects, spoken as one married to an immigrant and having seen what my two step kids have gone through to gain citizenship, legally of course.  To me. the concept of building some wall is ridiculous, as is banning Muslims.  Now, putting up a suitable barrier where it makes sense to do so is fine with me, but the folks coming in now basically turn themselves in and apply for asylum.

The very many who are not caught or turning themselves in are the real problem.

Southern Border
Can you articulate what a "secure border" means with some level of detail.

I consistently hear people say they don't want to address immigration until we "secure the border". But what does that actually look like?

What policy, if enacted, would satisfy you that the Southern border is secure?

Then there's very little to be gained from discussing politics with you. It is going to be a crap throwing contest from the start.

It's as productive as discussing politics with OAM, but just from the opposite side of the aisle.
I think OAM is a bit more shrill, but this is mostly correct.

Part of the reason people can’t seem to stop talking about politics is because it allows them an outlet for inflamed passions. We want to be passionate and mad more than we really want to discuss politics at all.

Because of their base, politics are often dry, random, boring and deathly complex. Take the border, all of the issues surrounding that are sprawling to insane degree.
