My wife likes that House Garden channel a lot.  And Hallmark.  She watches a lot more TV than I do.  I'll watch some Law and Order reruns with her a bit.  Pretty often I tyrn on the TV and find nothing and just read.  It's nice to get youtube on the TV though at times, they have a few things worth watching.  I thought this was excellent.

For actual news- I just watch local.

Every morning, over coffee, I check the website of all the all the MSM sources.  It usually gives clarity on things happening and the extremes often balance each other out.  It’s almost humorous at this point- like CDawg said the other day, the stories that do get covered, and especially the ones that don’t, reveal the tribal desires of the audience that particular outlet is pandering to.

I will say- and this is anecdotal I admit- folks that don’t trust the media or politicians to tell them the truth- watch this stuff now with a big grain of salt.  It seems to be a very large % of us consumers.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

I watch the local news.
I watch the local ABC channel because of the attritive young lady anchor.
Then out of laziness and lack of caring I stay on the channel and watch the ABC national news.

I don't watch either of them regularly.

Food Network seems to have become just a bunch of reality TV/competition shows.  Those bore me.

I liked the actual recipe/lifestyle shows, like Emeril or Mario Battali or Ina Garten.  I also liked watching Everyday Italian with Giada for... other reasons.

I believe some of those recipe/lifestyle shows moved to Cooking Channel, but that's on an extended tier now and I don't care enough to pay for it.

Similarly I liked a lot of the old DIY/home improvement/design shows on HGTV, but when they switched over to mostly reality/competition shows, I lost interest in that as well.

avoid headlines like "Star A dazzles in string bikini".
Wait, you are trying to avoid this?

Did anyone here claim they were?

The opinion obviously relates to one's own leanings.  I know a person on FB who claims MSNBC is right wing, and a posted on A51 (now gone for some reason) claimed Fox News was left wing.

The "middle" is defined by the individual.
They are definitely relative terms.

When I was in laws lawschool I used to go to breakfast sometimes with my dad and some of his friends. Without changing my ideology at all I could accurately say that I was:
  • The resident liberal at breakfast and
  • The resident conservative at lawschool

That said, I think when used as here the implication is that these terms are being used relative to the nation so "middle" is a national ideological "middle" which is more-or-less right between R's and D's.

Now if you are in Manhattan which typically votes around 90% Democrat then "middle" is a fairly liberal Democrat and someone who is "fairly liberal" nationally is "right wing" locally.

Conversely, if you are in Utah the opposite applies.

A funny thing to me about France is how very educated people can be ultra liberal/socialist in views and concurrently extremely racist and intolerant of others.

Le Pen for example is a socialist.
