Yup.  Shrimp and polenta together are awesome.  That combination has been around for ages.

Somebody in the US calls the exact same thing "shrimp and grits" and all of a sudden it's "new."
Chicken & waffles and shrimp & grits are "new" to the masses (ie - the bulk of our culture that follows trends and fads and such).  They're traditionally foods from the African-American community that have become "cool" in the past 6-8 years.

They will be replaced by something else random as hell and suddenly "cool."  Yes, this is stupid and never-ending, but it is what it is and at least expands the culinary experiences of some of the most limited people in our society.

The egg lobby is stubborn and wants things to remain static.  As in yes, there's some foods that are breakfast foods and the egg is at the top of that list.  Eat eggs every day for breakfast.  If you don't, you'll have a shitty day.
.
However, the pork lobby seems to be more open to evolving.  They benefit from the egg insisting on breakfast being a thing, as it's true eggs are probably the #1 breakfast food by volume, bacon is the real star.  It's the tastiest breakfast food and is almost rationed out, as a rare treat.
But the pork lobby has done a good job in the past 10-20 years of getting people to put bacon on everything.  Burgers, salads, sandwiches, etc.  Bacon realizes that while "breakfast foods" are traditional, our society gradually evolves over time.  One day, "breakfast food" will no longer exist.  People will eat whatever they want, whenever they want.  Spaghetti at 8am, an omelet at midnight, etc.

The egg lobby needs to get it's yolk out of the grits and diversify.

Maybe it's a great combo, I just wondered if this is a widely spread thing or more local.  I prefer shrimp cooked in other ways.

I like grits, I like shrimp, but together to me is a bit odd.  What I fix on occasion for my wife is grits with an easy over egg on top ...

I had beef pho, and learned how to pronounce pho.
Pho is delicious.

We have a place in town called Pho King Way.

Maybe I should buy one of their t shirts

Yeah, it's pho, not faux :57:

My wife keeps asking me to make another batch. She has a poultry allergy, and while beef pho shouldn't have any chicken or chicken stock, it's perhaps hard to trust a restaurant not to cheat a little (or just cross contaminate). So we can't go out together for it.

Beef pho is something that seems like the reverse of most cooking at home vs restaurant, in that it seems more expensive to make than to buy. I swear it's like I use $60 in ingredients to make $30 worth of soup.

I may have mentioned this before, but this place is my favorite of all time. It's in Long Beach on Anaheim Steet.

Yes,  there are some dishes that simply do not make much cost sense to make at home.

I made a huge pot of Vegetable Beef soup today and I was thinking about that.   I'm using a quart of homemade beef stock which of course cost me somrthing to make but then I was like man this V8 is pricey and the stew meat and the assorted vegetables...yes I'll likely eat this soup about five different times but it ain't cheap making soup.

I like bacon and waffles. I like fried chicken. I like polenta.
Polenta!  Old family stand by.  Especially with Italians making the sauce.

@Cincydawg would you consider a government-dictated (ooooh, spooky words) block of time for 24-hour news networks forbidding ads or commentary a breach of your free speech concern?
.
Say from 6-9am and 4-7 pm, CNN and FoxNews and MSNBC will not have commercials and may only report facts, with cited sources.  They're free to have as much down-time or dead-air as they wish during these 2 blocks of time, and they're free to inundate viewers with all of their radical, slanted "commentary" outside of the two blocks of time.
.
Would this be so outrageous?

Nice. We were just up in Long Beach yesterday. I'm sure eating pho would have been better than listening to 15 shrieking 6 year olds at a birthday party.

My only solace is that none of them belonged to me, so I could just chill and casualty sip a beer and ignore them.

Yeah I've made pho at home.  It's really pricey and not as good as I can get at my favorite pho place in town (or even my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th favorite pho places).  If I had to name a favorite soup, then it would be beef pho with eye round steak and brisket.  Bottom line, it's all about the broth.
