This case is about defamation, obviously, specific to one company (so far).  One can speculate about anything, but you get on thin ice when you fault one company for a misdeed without evidence and with malice, knowing it's false.

Smartmatic likely will settle soon with FN, and I expect everyone else Dominion has sued will settle in time.  This is a real windfall for Dominion, I don't think they earn anything near what this will give them.

FNC and Rupert walk off scot free.

Throw enough money at the problem and it goes away. It's the American way.

Yeah, I'm guessing they could have run a few one hour "retraction" programs or somesuch and gotten a much lower figure, but that would alienate their audience.

FN deserves it.  They need to wise up and not have emails showing they know what they are Peddling is factually not true.  They need to learn from CNN and MSNBC etc.

You can tell repeated lies every single night like CNN and MSNBC do, but because it’s “speculation”. - you can continue to get away with it.

I could spend hours giving specific examples, but

- MSNBC and CNN saying on air that Brett Kavanaugh is a serial rapist

-saying the Steele Dossier is legit

- saying there is no proof it was funded by Hillary( talk about damage to election process!)

-Covid, origins, mask efficacy, vaccine efficacy - all kinds of things they knew were false.

- Hunter’s laptop is Russian disinformation

News media is laughable.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

A "news" outfit can indeed spew lies nightly, but if their lies harm another company or person, they may be held liable.  The bar is higher for a person in the public eye than just a person.

It's really up to "us" as consumers to find credible news and avoid those that peddle lies and silliness.  Unfortunately, most folks prefer the lies they like to the truth they don't want to hear.

Definition of what’s an 'assault weapon' is a very contentious issue (cnbc.com)
Definition of what’s an 'assault weapon' is a very contentious issue (cnbc.com)

The 1994 federal assault weapons ban, officially known as the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act, was passed as a crime-fighting bill and identified more than a dozen specific models of firearms, including the Colt AR-15, that were defined as semi-automatic assault weapons. It also defined the term by specific characteristics, such as the ability to accept a detachable magazine and by certain cosmetic features.

They were defined as having two or more features like a bayonet mount of pistol grip etc.  Anyway, another topic.

The problem with this is that the clowns who write these definitions don't have a clue on the subject. The director of ATF has never owned or fired a weapon. Just yesterday he could not explain what an AR actually is.

AR does not stand for "assault rifle."

One problem IMHO is folks advocating for gun regulations often don't know anything about guns and crime (see above).

It helps to know what type of firearm is used most often, by far, in gun crimes (including homicides/murders and suicides).

There's about 12K deaths due to drunk driving per year in the US.   Deaths from "weapons of war" are a tiny fraction of that.  Haven't heard anyone suggest banning cars or alcohol.

A bad actor with a shotgun can kill a lot of folks in a school or nightclub.

Rifles, of all types, are infrequently used to commit crimes, for obvious reasons.  So, if somehow they all disappeared, the crime statistics would barely budge.

More deaths per year from fentanyl ODs than deaths suffered in WW2.  And nothing but political BS out of DC in response

One common denominator in these mass shootings, besides certain politicians calling for gun control before the bodies are cold, is mental disease of the perp.

Politicians obvious pander to the voters, who often are poorly informed on an issue.  "Banning assault weapons" is popular, according to polls, so they do it.

It's similar to doing "something" about climate change, also popular in polls.  Getting rid ot the Electoral College is also popular.

My wife had foot surgery a little less than 3 weeks ago. We went to CVS, Walgreens and other places to get her Rx filled. None of them would fill it. It was Oxycodone. Probably related to that lawsuit a couple/few years back.

Finally got it filled at Publix, of all places.

When I had my shoulder surgery, the doc prescribed 44 oxy pills.  I took one.  It stopped me up pretty bad in terms of defecation.  We usually use CVS, but that was in 2020 as I recall, dimly.
