Weirdly enough I-40 running from Eastern NM into Albuquerque is one of my favorite stretches on the American interstate system, but I wouldn't try to make fans of anybody else but myself.

Granted I'm usually arriving from the Kansas/Oklahoma panhandle direction on Highway 54 through Guymon OK/Stratford TX/Dalhart TX to Logan NM/Tucumcari NM along I-40. But that few hour stretch from Oklahoma's panhandle into NM makes for a lively entrance into what always feels like the first sense of the American West starting at Tucumcari NM. Before NM, the panhandle towns are as Texas as you can imagine, too dusty for much vegetation, high school district football championship years painted on the water towers, Marty Robbins still airing on the country stations, and the main streets smelling like cattle from the many livestock trailers passing through from the surrounding stockyards. And the stockyards themselves, though a sad sight at times, are patrolled by actual cowboys on horseback - blue jeans, cowboy hats, lassos, the whole look.

Crossing the state border into NM the brush lands really pick up, the desert is high enough for light snowfall, and nearing Tucumcari two rugged, uniquely Western sights emerge: 1. Canadian River Railroad Bridge Logan NM & 2. Tucumcari Mountain, I-40s easternmost Mesa (first Mesa witnessed going West).

The interstate town of Tucumcari itself still boasts the colorful motels of its Route 66 yesteryears, where many old Westerns were filmed. And beyond Tucumcari begins the true West as far as the eye can see, the horizon extending from ten or twelve miles away to thirty or forty.

A few pictures from my time passing through:

A remote Catholic Church in Nara Visa NM about a mile from border of Texas panhandle:

Classic Route 66 hotels along Highway 54 through Tucumcari:

Right, so entering all that makes it decent.  Leaving it...not so much.

Absolutely true. Even the ones with grudges against the PGA wouldn't have left without the big bags of money.

Just saying that I don't think Brooks had a grudge. Phil, definitely, had a grudge.

What was Phil's grudge?

He's been pushing for a long time that the PGAT should cater more to the star players and less to the hoi polloi journeymen/grinders on the tour. More exclusivity with big money events for the players that "move the needle".

He was eyeballs deep in gambling debt.

Hence his appetite for ever-more star treatment (i.e. $$$$) from the Tour since he was one of those stars that would benefit.

I think from that far out, I'd kick it.
I agree. My only reservation is that if you had time for two plays my answer would be different but that was already addressed upthread and it sounds like they didn't.

If you DID have time for two plays my answer wouldn't necessarily be throw for the EZ then kick. It would depend on timeouts and how much time. I might try to get close with my first play, then go for it on the final play from closer.

The problem from that far out is that even for the best passing offenses a 17 yard shot at a TD that the defense knows is coming is a fairly low percentage play.

Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed, Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter

Most have had a beef or two with the PGA in the past.

Brooks,
“A lot of guys I see on a daily basis around Jupiter still play on the PGA Tour. I have nothing against them. I have nothing against Jay. It’s just competition, right? We are just trying to put up the best model we can, the best golf and then it’s up to the fans. We want people to watch and come to the events. We want to put on a show for everybody.”

Players think that they are valued better at LIV Golf and the league has mapped out its business model decently. The league has a cool business side and provides neat experience to the fans and players. According to Koepka, “That is what LIV creates and that’s the difference.”

“LIV have done a phenomenal job just listening to the players, what we want, what we need. That’s been the cool part of the process. The transparency. This is the first full season. I’m very pleased with it.” Renowned golfers such as Sergio Garcia, Taylor Gooch and Phil Mickelson have left the PGA Tour for the Saudi backed league. Everyone seems to enjoy the life they are getting to live by being a part of Saudi backed league. They seem to have better pay, better work-life balance, and overall a better experience.

Eh. Most of what they're saying is just following the company line.

I'll agree with better pay, because it's limited field events with no cut, and high purses. Although the PGAT with the "designated events" is closing that gap.

But with their new schedule of 14 events, if they also are playing in the Majors, that's nearly the same number most of them had on the PGAT. And they have no control over the schedule of which they will or won't play, and have to fly all over the world for some of these.

You don't dangle ~$100M in front of these guys, and I don't think any of the big names would have jumped ship even for the large purses and different format.

it's all about the $$$

and for a few, it's an easy way to take a shot at the PGA after having issues in the past
