The Dell xps15 is a very good machine

The only reason I didnt go with it is no numeric key pad which to anyone else is no big deal but it is for me

Im sure you will be very happy with it
Yeah as I recall the Precision Workstation is the only keyboard that suits your needs.

I also looked at a really nicely spec'd out Alienware gaming laptop for about the same price, and it would also serve nicely.  Main reason I didn't pull the trigger is that if I bought an Alienware laptop I'm pretty sure my son would abscond with it and never give it back, and also, while the Alienware is very cool, the XPS is just a beautifully crafted piece of machinery.

As much of a tech nerd as I am, I actually don't really lust over buying it much. The only real gaming I do is Words With Friends.

Oh man, I haven't done any real gaming since college.  At the time, the original Doom was my jam.

I'm most excited about setting up for some video editing, I haven't really been able to do much of that since my old Apple Macbook crapped out.  But these days the software for PCs is fairly close to what Apple can do.

My son, on the other hand, would game 24/7 if I let him.  He has an Alienware Aurora desktop system of his own, he doesn't really NEED the use of a gaming laptop, he just likes the idea of being able to lie around on the couch and game, at the same time.

You should send him to some of our northern friends and put him to work shoveling snow. Sounds like he needs to "build some character" :57:

Chicago’s richest resident is moving to the Sunshine State, and he’s taking his money – and his company – with him.

Ken Griffin, a hedge fund manager worth almost $29 billion, has already moved himself and his family to Florida. And recently, he released a memo to employees that his $22 billion firm, Citadel Securities, would also move its headquarters there.

While the trend of companies moving from high-tax states like California, Illinois, and New York to lower-tax, business-friendly states like Texas and Florida is nothing new, one factor in the decision is potentially concerning for the future of Chicago’s business climate.

Crime a Factor in Citadel’s Move Out of Chicago
Citadel officials cited crime as one critical reason for the move. According to a report, over the last few years, there have been multiple incidents involving Citadel employees. Ken Griffin himself experienced an attempted carjacking, a Citadel employee was stabbed while walking to work, and there have been numerous reports of shootings, riots, and looting near some employees’ homes.

Ken Griffin has been outspoken about how crime has affected his employees. In a recent interview, he said, “if people aren’t safe here, they’re not going to live here. I’ve had multiple colleagues mugged at gunpoint. I’ve had a colleague stabbed on the way to work, countless issues of burglary. I mean, that’s a really difficult backdrop with which to draw talent to your city from.”

I have a Precision 5570 (built for AutoCad and other models) with no number keypad. Of course, I have a docking station, so a regular keyboard, ethernet, two large monitors. I really only miss the keyboard when I travel for leisure.

We drive through this tunnel a few times a month, probably will again today, I've never found it to be problematic.
