well then, use them for targets to distract the enemy.

better use than sitting in a grave yard in Nevada or wherever

a better target for Russian artillery and missiles than an apartment building

I'd think about using blown up "balloons" that look like tanks and have a heat signature.

Cheaper, much easier to transport, etc.  We did that in WW II.

Ford to Lose $3 Billion on EVs This Year, but Sales Are Rising (caranddriver.com)

Losses from the EV division will be covered by an expected increase in profits for the other two Ford divisions, with Lawler projecting $7 billion in earnings before interest and taxes this year for Ford Blue, and roughly $6 billion for Ford Pro. Speaking to reporters, Lawler explained the reasoning behind the expected losses for the Model e arm of the business.

Pffft.  We’re still flying the B-52, the last of which was made in 1957. And we’re scheduled to keep flying them for decades, at which point the air frames will be 90 years old.

Of course, a B-52 would be very vulnerable in any contested air space, but "we" often don't face that.

It's hard to sleep in a hotel sometimes. It's all about the bed. We have good luck with Hilton places.

Ah, politics. I started a "policy" thread way back, and it turned South because policy is very much tied to the tribes. It's a lost cause.

It's probably time to stop it around here.
this thread has over 1500 pages and half of that is political

if you want to ban political discussion on the only thread that allows it

fine go ahead but please enforce it

If you're talking about Trump, then I'd say the attraction for many of his voters, was that he was not a career politician and he came from "outside the system."  I didn't vote for him but of the people I know who did, they didn't have some false belief that they were sending a "man of the people" to Washington, but they did believe they were sending an outsider, and in that belief, they were correct.

It's one of many reasons the "insiders" bristled at his every word.

And also, because he's a major asshole.
his anti-establishment rhetoric got him elected. he was pretending to be a man of the people. he's obviously not. he's an extremely wealthy, famous person. he promised to "drain the swap". problem is, when he got into office he hired basically everyone from said swap. he didn't drain ish. he hired people like Mike Pence, Mike Pompeo, and John Bolton.

maybe the one thing I can give the guy credit for is he didn't start any new wars, one of the first presidents in decades you can say that about- and I very much doubt we'd be out of Afghanistan if he hadn't pushed so hard to get out- despite the entire military industrial complex and republican establishment pushing back on him on that and trying to road block him at every single turn.

I miss the days when you guys pretended to have the moral high ground.
Oh well.
neither party is moral. they are centers of power, not centers of morality.

all we have is bad option A and bad option B- and try to pick the better option between two sh*t sandwiches. I'm not great fan of Trump, I just think he's a better option than Biden.

Until we get rid of money in elections and break the two party duopoly we'll just continue to have to pick between two really sh*tty options until the end of time.

The Electoral College virtually guarantees a two party system short of a real meltdown of a current party.  We have "independents" in the Senate, but really in name only.  And the got elected as Dems.

so do you want many parties like France has

nothing wrong with a two party system

plus these parties change over time

The dem party of today is no where the same party back in JFKs day

I offered no opinion as to what I would prefer.  My thought is that the EC isn't going away, so it's moot.  (I know there is an effort by some states to sidestep it.)

I don't think any third party can survive here UNLESS one of the two really collapses.
