This thread is for anyone who wants to frequent it.  We should all do better to make it more palatable for everyone.
Including past monkeys, current humans, and current monkeys.

I don't think that Fro knows the difference between a monkey and an ape.

Even short vacations get tiring at my age, for one thing, I may not sleep well in a motel.

We came back down I-85 which is a mess outside the Perimeter all the time, maybe not 3 AM.  I'd hate to live out that way and have to use it often, stop and go for about 10 miles at 2 PM for no apparent reason.

It's hard to sleep in a hotel sometimes. It's all about the bed. We have good luck with Hilton places.

Ah, politics. I started a "policy" thread way back, and it turned South because policy is very much tied to the tribes. It's a lost cause.

It's probably time to stop it around here.

We stayed at a very nice place in the mountains, but to save a buck, I opted for a "queen suite", forgetting how small a queen is when you're used to a king.

I slept OK, but my wife said she didn't.  I agree Hilton places generally have decent mattresses and are clean.  We stayed at a HI "Expess" in Dahlonega that we knew was well maintained.  And it's right on the square.

Russia de-mothballs tanks from the 1950s and sends them to war – CIT | Ukrainska Pravda

The Russian military has de-mothballed the T-54/55 medium tanks and started sending them from Russia’s Far East to the combat zone in Ukraine. The tanks were made in the 1940s and the 1950s. Investigators of the Conflict Intelligence Team have obtained photographs of a train transporting military vehicles from Russia’s Far East.

I think it's a great idea.  Not sure why the US isn't sending otherwise useless older weapons to Ukraine to be used up.

It's still a tank, better than state of the art body armor

no one speaks about the banana lobby.......... oops

Bananas rank fourth after rice, wheat, and maize in human food consumption. They are grown in 130 countries worldwide, more than any other fruit crop. In popular culture and commerce, "banana" usually refers to the soft, sweet "dessert" bananas that are usually eaten raw. The bananas from a group of cultivars with firmer, starchier fruit, generally used in cooking rather than eaten raw

DONETSK REGION, Ukraine (AP) — Skimming the treetops, three Soviet-era attack helicopters bank and swoop down on a field after an early-morning mission to the front lines in the fight against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Each day, they might fly three or four sorties, says the commander, whose two-crew Mi-24 helicopter, built about 40 years ago, is older than he is.

“We are carrying out combat tasks to destroy enemy vehicles, enemy personnel, we are working with pitch-up attacks from a distance from where the enemy can’t get us with their air defense system,” said the commander, who spoke on condition of anonymity for operational security reasons, in line with military regulations.

The conflict in Ukraine is largely an artillery war, with territory being fought for inch by inch under a barrage of shells and missiles. But Ukraine’s aviation capabilities play a significant role in the fight, the pilot said.

For protection, sure, but it also makes a fine target to any number of anti-tank weapons.  They tend to stand out.

Against a Leopard 2 or M1A2 or Chieftan, they'd just be targets.
