I admit I’m not a well traveled person, but there is not a doubt in my mind that the US has got to be one of the greatest countries that ever existed and will continue to do so for a long, long time.

Despite all our flaws we still dominate a lot of industry. It’s true that for the most part we don’t dominate manufacturing but instead we do dominate the design.

And if you want one example we’re about to lap EU and China in space exploration. Again. Russia will be an afterthought. We’ve already pulled most commercial launches from ESA and Roscosmos and it’s about to get worse for them.

The symphony practice session was interesting.  The conductor had them play segments of a Seblius symphony over and over asking for more this and less that, as one could expect.  I couldn't hear any difference.  There was a lot of discussion between the various principals and the conductor, I couldn't make out much of it.  There was another assistant conductor sitting right in front of us in the audience (of about 25 people) with the score and offering a few comments, mostly thumbs up.  My wife introduced us to him at a break and he said he had spent time in Cincinnati studying and knew Louis Langree quite well, the former maestro there (and my wife's favorite, she' texted him about the experience).

These musicians pick up new music each week and somehow master it in three days or so and then assemble once to practice together, it's quite impressive to me.

Yep. We’re pretty great.

What is the topic?  The strange notion that some Americans think the country is somehow perfect and that is a problem?

I've never met one, the few who might exist are problems only for themselves.
So no one thinks the U.S. is perfect....but there's plenty (and a ton here) that poo-poo any and all criticisms of the U.S.
Yes, that paradox is bizarre, I'll give you that.

The lack of objectivity here is amazing.
EVERY country that has ever been the best in any given century was proud of that fact and didn't see any reason it should change.
Yet change it did.  Every time.
This isn't rocket science, guys.

And they all crumbled in the process of making their changes.

I'd like for us to keep the Republic.

Repealing the 17th with a 28th would be a nice boost, as would a 29th limiting the terms of House members.

Hasn’t vast majority of American greatness included the 17th amendment?

I don't see ANYONE here  "poo pooing criticisms" of the US that are reasonable (this one isn't).  Iin fact most of us have offered plenty of our own.  And of course, to suggest this or that criticism is silly is not nearly the same thing as claiming the US is perfect, you wouldn't find a solitary poster here who thought that.  You wouldn't find a man on the street that thinks that either.

We have plenty of issues as a nation, one of them is not that too many folks think the nation is perfect or even near perfect.  Maybe folks on the Egg Lobby Board think that, I dunno much about them.

As my wife says "coming soon", laughing.  It amazes me that the MB Dome is equivalent to 32 stories of building in height.

And they offer $2 hot dogs (price went up recently I'm told.)

You're confusing people who think the U.S. is perfect with people who are willing to claim it aloud.
