A pair of small notes, he was charged with illegally carrying a concealed weapon, not illegal possession of a firearm.

Also, the maximum penalty is so rarely used, it's kind of a misnomer. If he hadn't pled, gone through a trial and been found guilty, it's pretty unlikely he gets much time (and to be fair, I think many of us would agree, that particular charge is probably not worth much prison time, if any).
No judgement here  I was just posting what I had factually read ( and you made a minor nuanced correction- thank you)

Now- you added some opinion to your post - which I think I likely agree with, regarding sentencing “ norms”.

Ironically- we are saying we don’t strongly enforce or penalize the CURRENT gun laws, yet so many seem to think the answer is more gun laws.  Interesting.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

Motive?  It is way too easy for loner psychos to acquire multiple firearms, while we simultaneously tax our population into oblivion to either shoot down balloons or hand warheads to Ukraine

And we are too entrenched in our own political parties to realize that both are problems, because those with a voice to do so, are only focused on supporting the party of their choice, while turning a blinc eye to their own hypocricy
I agree on it being too easy for criminals to acquire guns. This guy should not have had one, and most certainly didn't get it legally. I also agree on the taxing part.

I would like to know a motive here.

Was there a report that he didn’t get it legally?

Given his record, it's my understanding that he would not be allowed to buy one from a licensed seller.

His record being the 2019 thing?

that has got to be an update with the browser, and a cat and mouse game played regularly i've somehow avoided for a long while... it may have finally caught up!  the whole 'mobile' thing breaks over a single pixel size, iirc it's 1079-1080px.. from 1079 lower you get the mobile theme, from 1080+ you get the 'normal... there is another one around 2200px iirc, but it basically just frames the site and doesn't allow it to get any bigger... this is all from memory, and a memory more than two years old which is the last time I did anything with design.... yup- it's been that long since any 'real' alterations to this site.... because i'm lazy... and because "if it ain't broke I ain't fixin it"... but if it's broke?  I'll get to it...

let me know if it corrects itself.

Yes.
Hmmm.

If that kind of thing, and things worse than it were to curtail someone’s rights to bear arms, it would reflect as a rather sweeping sort of gun control.

It would be interesting though probably not feasible given the pushes for gun rights and general disinterest in letting the government curtail them.

convicted felons abandon their rights as free citizens, no?  disallowing a convicted felon from possession of a firearm is already a thing.  yet, allowing convicted felons to vote is also, now, a thing- telling me some pols want some rights restored (the rights that help them) and some retained (the ones where the convicted felon can act outside of the state's control).

this environment that we live in is absurd.  we've forgotten the whole for fear of offending the individual.  we want 'mob' control and no individual liberties when that suits the person talking, but individual liberties when that same person is talking about something else.  we want sweeping laws with dramatic penalty when we're presented with a clown like this one, and because we're told so by media and pols who both have armed security.

i've got a pistol in my waistband right this second.  it's always there.  i don't recall the last time it's seen daylight-- it's drawn at night and put in the safe box, and just like my wallet and glasses it's retrieved in the morning and goes on my person.  statistically, i'll never need it.  i doubt my family or i will ever be a statistic because i have it.

these clowns follow an MO that makes it easy to profile them.  they're almost all from some marginalized group- they're told so by the media and their outrage is warranted.  they're almost all connected to psych drugs either current or in their not-so-distant past.  they're angry little bitches who believe it's okay- that they are justified in lashing out (like bratty children) and "I'll show you!"... and they always choose soft targets. ... and, not to piss anyone off anymore than they already are- they almost always are on the far left of the political prism, where emotional response is worshipped and rational and logic is abandoned- evidenced by the 'woke', by the actions in the streets across America rioting after an ass hole cop did ass hole cop things.  justified- as told to them by political figures and the media.

we've forgotten "live and let live" because either you're with me or against me.  there is no middle ground.  I'm so freakin' over this- it serves only one group and that is the media and the establishment (yes, that's one group).

how to correct it?  shoot back.  that's a start.  shoot back with words to the media and established- shoot back with votes- shoot back with bullets to those who are brainwashed into believing they "have a point and that point is more valuable than life".  ... and freakin stop acting like bitches- you and i may disagree about just about everything, but that warrants no violence or shenanigans to incite violence.

Anyone convicted of a gun crime should not be able to legally purchase a gun. My general opinion of course, as a lawful gun owner.

There was a book I read a few years back that profiled a lot of the mass shooters. The biggest common denominator, on top of other mental issues, were diagnoses or at least major symptoms consistent with paranoid schizophrenia.

Which isn't to say that you're wrong, but that to go from what you said to "shooting up a big group of people" usually requires an additional fuel on the fire.
