Were you aware that prior to playing this song the game announcer requests everyone to stand?

Like I said earlier the NFL is way off base with this one
Does asking to stand carry extra weight?

I’ve heard PA folks ask people to stand for a lot of stuff at sporting events.

Not all change is good.  Not even close.
There are a lot of people in this country who want changes that will not make this a better place- and that is often not their stated goal.
Never said all change is good, and I don't believe that.

What I *do* believe is that when people think that, politically, "the other side" is trying to make change in bad faith, i.e. trying to make change because they're trying to hurt the country, those people are dead wrong.

Now, you may think the changes they're trying to push will hurt the country. But intent matters, and it does you no help to assume your political opponents are actively bad in their intent, rather than incorrect about the effects of the changes they're pushing for.

Sorry, sounds like you're talking about "The Star Spangled Banner" the song officially recognized as the national anthem. An act of Congress in 1931 did codify it as our national anthem.

BAB is talking about the song "Lift Every Voice and Sing" that some have a problem as it is often referred to as the "Black National Anthem". It is not recognized by any official government body as a national anthem anywhere: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lift_Every_Voice_and_Sing

Oh, ok.  Obviously I was still confused.

As it turns out, people making obtuse references rather than stating explicitly what they're talking about, ends up causing confusion.

Yeah, and in this thread it usually results in two groups of people arguing with each other based on what they THOUGHT the other group was trying to say because the other group wasn't very clear.

And since each group are predisposed to assume the worst intent from the other group to begin with, any confusion is interpreted in the worst light possible.

Which is why I try to be careful and correct in my language choices. Which often results in writing a long post to get my point across, because I don't have time to write a short one. Which, because the world is tl;dr, means it never gets read anyway.

Which is part of the reason I needed a hiatus. I no longer have any interest in talking about Purdue, and most of the other discussions were not particularly productive.

Politics and political opponents?  Not sure how you got that or anything close from my post.

I will just stop there instead of giving you the many easy examples of changes being sought where the stated goal - the intent- is not good for the country and in some cases to hurt the country.

I see too many falsely hiding behind the narrative that if you don’t agree with them you can’t handle change or you want to keep everything the same. It’s kind of what you were doing to badge in your post

no- some changes are just bad ideas.

I was typing fast on the phone and thought the thread about this "black national anthem" business carried through. Didn't mean to cause the confusion.
