As for the flyover, I'm surprised that they had the roof open at Cardinal Stadium. I think that's the first time I've ever seen that roof open during a game.

This was promoting a 2nd anthem for Black people on perhaps the most watched TV show all year

Thats a big deal to both pro and con groups amd not small stuff

it seems to me only yesterday when this country had water fountains labled Black and special seats at the back of buses for Blacks

Its amazing to me that anyone would promote a National Anthem for Blacks and is very devisive

It is a big deal
If one wants it to be a big deal, I suppose it’ll be one. If one shrugs it off as an over-dramatic name, it won’t be.

It’s not actually an anthem of a black Christian separatist movement. It was literally a response to people mandating separate water fountains and written by folks sent to the backs of buses.

In the end, the answer to perceived “divisiveness” is just to counter by being welcoming and not drawing lines between ourselves. And if we feel someone draws those lines, welcome and respect them anyway, and we’ll be able to work on past it.

This is America! Chips should be easy to procure. Hope they’re good.

One nation, one anthem. End of story. Don't like it? There's a fix for that.

Go try to create a new anthem in China. I dare ya. Lemme know how socialism works for ya.

Go try to smoke weed in Russia. I dare ya. Of course, we don't have any ultra-violent assholes to trade to get ya back. Let me know how that goes for ya.

IMHO this is something that I think people are naturally inclined to do, and that the mark of enlightenment is transcending that urge.

People are, by our human nature, tribal. We are inclined to think of "us" and "them". And by nature, "us" is good, and trustworthy, and someone we welcome, while "them" is bad, or untrustworthy, or dangerous and someone we should treat as a threat. Who is in the "us" category vs "them" category might be based on skin color, by gender, by political party, by class, by religion, by nationality, or by 1000 other distinctions.

But it's all bullshit. Yes, there are bad people in the world. And there are good people in the world. But "us" aren't universally good, and "them" are not universally bad.

Drawing these lines between ourselves is something that probably made sense when we were hunter-gathering tribes, but the more we can avoid it now, the better off all of us will be.

I'm with you on most of this.

Speaking for me, I welcome anyone who wants to come here legally, adapt to our culture, work, achieve the dream. Come on into this great country.

Just don't try to change it.

Deal? Good.

How enlightened of you.  I assume you'd happily root for Indiana to win the national championship, in the spirit of transcendence?

Awww helllll nawww!

Nor would I expect for them to root for Purdue.

But you know what? I don't hate IU. I don't hate IU fans. I certainly don't hate IU athletes. I don't think people who go to IU are bad people. I don't think that people who go to / root for IU are fundamentally different from people who go to / root for Purdue.

We're on different sides of a rivalry, but that doesn't mean that I will dehumanize them.

I honestly wish happiness and sulf-fulfillment for IU, their athletes, their students, their fans, etc...

...I just wish SLIGHTLY more happiness and self-fulfillment for whatever team is facing them.

That’s only because they’re an efficient state that sends all its nerds to the sticks to be nerds together.
