in other news.......

Chili is in the pot and the kitchen is clean

when's kickoff?  I'm ready
When IS kickoff, anyway?  Isn't it usually something like 5:25 Central?

My SIL finally broke down and invited a few folks over.  We'll be having Brazilian hot dogs, and then some spinach-artichoke dip, chips and queso, guac, and fudge brownies for dessert.

Do you mind me asking: what is a Brazilian hot dog?

Do you mind me asking: what is a Brazilian hot dog?

Don't mind at all.

Brazilian hot dogs are a staple in Brazilian street foods.  They're based on our hot dogs, but prepared and accompanied differently. I'd never heard of them either, until a good friend married a Brazilian girl, and she made them for all of us at a World Cup game watching party, 12 or 14 years back.

You start by making a tomato-based sauce with tomatoes, garlic, onions, and chopped bell peppers, sauteed and simmered until thick. Then you put the hot dog wieners in and simmer them for a while.  Some people cut them lengthwise so they soak up more of the sauce.

Once your wieners are warmed up and cooked into the sauce, you can start constructing.  Brazilians tend to use mayo on the bun first, but you could use mustard or ketchup or BBQ sauce or whatever you like.  Then you place a wiener on, spoon on some of the sauce with chunky bits of tomato and onion and bell pepper, and then the real special part is the toppings.  They use all kinds of crazy stuff.  The most common are whole kernel corn, green peas, shoestring potatoes, shaved carrot, cilantro, and parmesan cheese.  They're really tasty!

They're SO good.

Sometimes I just want a classic American chili cheese dog or mustard and kraut, but these are great as a change of pace.  And they're awesome for parties because hot dogs are cheap and people can just add whatever toppings they find interesting to dress them how they like.  Like a build your own sundae bar, but with hot dogs and corn instead of ice cream and fudge sauce. :)

The restaurant on the street level of my building serves Carolina chili dogs. Which is basically just a split hotdog, chili, shocking amounts of coleslaw and then mustard.

They are good but they will just put you in your ass. I am player does not get their money’s worth if I have lunch there.

The way I misread this part gave me the best idea ever.
Somehow my eyes interjected 'corndog' in there.

Why not have cornbread-breaded chili corndogs?  Dog and chili on the inside, surrounded by a cornbread breading on the outside.
Patent pending!!

That’s ok.  As long as they play the White National Anthem too.
