I've never been a pickup guy and if any manufacturers made an SUV that could tow 11K pounds, that's what I'd own.  But nobody does, so a pickup I have.  2015 F150 crew cab 4x4 with the 3.5 twin turbo and a 5.5' bed.

And I have to say I absolutely love this truck.  Ford's crew cab for those model years was larger than the GM or Ram offerings at the time, and that's what really sold me, since it basically has  to serve as my daily driver plus our family vehicle.  It's been a fantastic vehicle for the 4.5 years we've had it, and I have no doubt it'll remain my primary vehicle for many years to come.

This one is close, but no cigar ...

2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer | Cars.com photo by Christian Lantry

Jeep’s new Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer full-size SUVs made their debut for 2022 and weigh in at the top of the SUV tow ratings. The Wagoneer has a pickup-like 10,000-pound maximum rating with the standard 392-horsepower, 5.7-liter V-8 and two- or four-wheel-drive, along with the Heavy-Duty Trailer-Tow Package that includes HD engine cooling, trailer brake control and a hitch lineup assist and hitch zoom view. The fancier and heavier Grand Wagoneer with its 471-hp, 6.4-liter V-8 is rated to tow 9,850 pounds. Jeep already has unveiled long-wheelbase L versions of the Wagoneers for 2023 with new twin-turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engines (420 or 510 hp) and says these longer models also will tow up to 10,000 pounds when properly equipped.

Yup, 10K is better than the current crop of Suburbans and Expeditions, but still not enough.

With the towing wars with pickups, you'd think someone would put an SUV "out there" for bragging rights.  Maybe something about it is technically difficult?

Maybe you need the 2500 frame underneath?  But you have a 150.

I am amazed how well trucks drive these days.

I just don't think there's much of a market for it. Up until about 2005/2006, Ford had an Expedition that was considered a 3/4 ton and had a towing capacity of 12K, and same for GM with a Suburban.  But those went away, and nothing ever came in to fill the gap.

And yeah, the towing capacities of the 1/2 ton 150/1500 trucks is considerably higher than they were on their counterparts from 15-20 years ago.  Frames are stronger, drive trains and riding gear are beefier.

I'll admit, I've always been a Ford guy for some reason, but that looks pretty damn slick.

I still much prefer the largest set of full-sized SUVs.  Doesn't have to be Suburban-long, but the Tahoe and Yukon are pretty nice.  That said, if they'd make a 3/4 ton high capacity towing version of the Suburban or Yukon XL, that's what I'd be driving.

I think somewhere on the IRS site is a free service they have to offer.

Setting aside the actual questions of tax announces, the tax prep racket is quite a thing.
