it's the few you have to hide that started the stereotype

Technicians in general can be that way.

The numbers are much smaller than what is thought. I'd say maybe one in ten are socially inept. We are "civil", of course.

The % is higher in EE. There are some power dorks in my field, for sure.

But still, it's a silly argument.  For most engineers that have social issues, it's a fundamental part of their personality. I don't see a class doing much, to change that.

My youngest stepson is in school for mech. eng.  He has the prototypical engineer personality with all the introverted quirks thrown in.  He doesn't want to change, and no amount of classes or anything else would help, because he doesn't want to be anything other than what he is.  He has social anxiety and he's okay with that.  He's not exactly awkward socially, but he'll do what he can to avoid people in general, and he's very abrupt and direct and will come off rude to people who don't know him, even though he's not.

Well, he kinda is, but not too bad.

He will argue with a brick wall, though.  When he thinks he's right, there is no principle of falsification in play that will convince him otherwise.  Sometimes it's hilarious and other times its frustrating when he argues with his mom about medical stuff.  She, with a medical degree and over a decade's experience, and he, with Google and Reddit, but he will argue with her about diseases, meds, etc. fully convinced that she just isn't smart enough to see his point.

hah, engineers have been known to have this issue long before Atari PONG was released in June 1972

You still have your Atari "PONG" single-game console hooked up in your man cave, don't you.

Better than what he used to play, rather than watch Scott Frost coach a game

The first ever football video game was for the Magnavox Odyssey, in 1971.

It was basically pong, only crappier because it was before pong, with a gridiron static cling graphic that you put over your screen, and a complicated scorecard that you had to fill out attentively.
