I went summers at UGA, finished in three years.  Of course grad school is summers as well.  Finished is just shy five.  That was a grind.

Finished my BS. Later started an MBA program, then aborted it to start my own business. Those instructors didn't seem to know jack, as none of them were actually IN business.

Took me 5 years to get my BCE degree, and some years thereafter to work in the industry long enough to get duly licensed.

A friend of ours is an architect, and one must have a masters in order to be a licensed architect. That's crazy. I know that ASCE is pushing MSCEs hard, but I don't think the degree requirement should change for a license.

The BS Eng programs could absolutely go to 3 years if all of the fluff was eliminated. But... a whole lot of LA professors would be really pissed.

Therefore, not happening.

My BS Eng degree required 147 credit hours.

I'm okay with the LA requirements in undergrad, and my credit total was something in that neighborhood when I graduated.

What I don't want is for licensing requirements to go the other way. IMHO masters degrees are NOT needed for our licensure.

MS is not needed for anything in our particular field. There is such a thing as too much school.

I still wonder why I had to take Rural Sociology and other nonsense.

In European colleges, you take only courses in your major (or closely related fields).  They expect you already know history and whatnot from HS.

A BS Chemist from Europe had a lot more chemistry than one in the US.

The other thing about Europe is only about 37% of HS grads attend college, here it's nearly 70%.
