I can't think of a major project in the US so obviously wrong that still survives (aside from weapons development).  "We" usually cut our losses.

They will end up with a very fancy high speed line in the middle of nowhere with at best slow connecting lines to the major cities.

This has been obvious for many years.

When we lived in Chicago, we'd fly to Miami to get on cruises. After the cruises, we'd take the cruise shuttle to MIA and get on the Brightline. We have friends in West Palm, so we'd visit them before heading back to Chicago, from PBI.

So much better to fly PBI over MIA or FLL.

When we lived in Chicago, we used rail a LOT. I used to have an office downtown, so it was the way to go for sure. We lived 2 blocks from a train station, which was even better.

Would love to be able to get to Miami and Fort via rail. Driving Alligator Alley really... sucks.
I love the Brightline man the trains are immaculate and super nice and the stations are all gorgeous. The stations in Boca and Aventura are opening next week on the 21st. Orlando is suppose to open sometime in Q1 of 2023. There is only one station in Orlando now, there was suppose to be two stations in Orlando, one at MCO and another at Disney Springs but Mickey Mouse pulled out of the deal at the last second. F that damn rat.

PBI is clutch. That's the best airport ever. Almost like flying private- no lines in and out. I literally used to be able to get to that airport like 30 mins before a flight and still make it back in the day. Problem with PBI now is they cut a ton of the routes and it's mostly seasonal now. Back in the day they had way more routes and they were all year round.

Brightline is barely HSR, as defined with a speed of at least 125 mph.  But really, that speed is adequate, and the cost of going 250 mph is really high.

If you have at grade crossings, you are limited to 79 mph max, and lower in congested areas.

The Accela line in the NE works pretty well at 125 mph.
believe the WPB to Miami route averages around 79-80mph and that is in large part bc of all the congestion- there is just a shitload of people living in that corridor and it's not very many miles of a stretch- maybe 60 or something like that.

I believe the WPB to Orlando route will average 125mph however, which is considered HSR.

When did they make the cuts? Covid?

I never had a problem getting an AA flight to ORD in the past. Probably did it 6-7 times.

years before that. I want to say more than 10 years ago? They basically used to have direct flights year round to basically every major city. I used to go to Detroit at least 3-4 times a year out of there. Then most the flights started having stops or some airlines were only seasonal from Nov/Dec to April. I really hate stops- have to do direct flights unless it's just not possible. Pretty much have been flying out of FLL exclusively since. I basically refuse to fly out of Miami- that airport might be the worst airport ever.

The worst airports in my experience include DeGaulle and Toronto.  I've only been to the latter once, it was amazingly horrible.

It was akin to being in a hospital that had eight additions to it.
