Hey Mr. N-- just thought you should know, I've purchased the eggs, cream, sugar, and rum, for the eggnog.  We'll be making something like 7 gallons of it on Friday night.  If you come on down, I'll gift you a quart or two. :)
Some home brewin' right there :a035: title=a035 .How long does it last?

It looks like Austin doesn't have nearly as many giant ghettos as Columbus. So that's a plus.

In Columbus you gotta stay west of 71, and north of 70 for the most part, with Bexley and New Albany serving as oases in the forbidden zone.

7 gallons? Only lasts through the night of the party.  We'll probably have about 70-100 people come through over the course of the evening.

But I sometimes save off a couple of quarts to have ready for Christmas day, or to age until next year.

My daughter lived SE of downtown in what she described as an area that was headed up.  She is still renting that house.  She did have a breakin in her garage and lost a lot of tools.  Her house was nice looking though I never saw it before she moved.

It's interesting to me how many larger cities are nicer in the north and slummy in the south.  The ritzy part of Atlanta is the NW portion where the houses qualify as mansions often as not.

Austin had some reasonably-sized and somewhat dangerous ghettos back in the 70s and 80s. "East Austin" used to be pretty bad, but gentrification has pushed most of that well beyond the borders of the city.

I'm ashamed to admit I don't think I've ever really had any eggnog.  TTYTT, I don't even really know WTF it is.  Just some christmastime alcohol drink.

If you buy store-bought then it's typically non-alcoholic.  Storebought eggnog is also gross IMO.

I grew up hating the stuff because all I'd ever had was storebought junk.  But one time early in our marriage, my i s c & a aggie wife made some of her family's homemade recipe, and it tasted like a completely different beverage.  And it was delicious.

JMO, obviously.  Lots of people don't like it, but I'm  guessing a decent percentage of those folks have never had a good homemade version of it.

Are you talking about the aging, or serving 7 gallons in a night? :)

For the aging, it stays in the refrigerator all year long.  There's plenty of booze too.  Couldn't tell you how much is in a quart, but I've aged up to two years and there's no problem with spoilage.  It definitely loses its "fluffiness" over time.

Just like beer or wine or anything else, folks should drink what they like.  But I've always hated storebought eggnog.  I'm not joking when I say that the homemade stuff tastes like an entirely different beverage, and to my personal taste, it's much better.
