Fancy in France has always meant superb food in my experience, but not very fancy usually means very very good food also.

The best meals I've ever had were in fancy ($$$) places.  I wish we could get some of the more basic kind of bistros around here.

Fancy doesn't equal good over there. I find the local joints have the best food.
I’m using fancy loosely. It’ll shock you, but real fancy isn’t really my scene.

Facebook is where old fogies post their nostalgic musings now.  No one under 30 uses it.  Hence the twitter/instagram/tiiktok

There are some studies showing a link between TikTok and neurological problems in adolescents.  Something about it is potentially really playing hell with the way kids' brains are wired.  Nothing really ground-breaking, of course.  It's just an extension of other video-related technology that's been caught affecting brains for a long while now.  Older people who use it are not so affected.  Mainly catching issues in still-developing brains (I'd have always been immune...my brain never developed).

Lately it moved from something I read/heard about to something we're seeing personally.  My wife has been seeing an upswing in cases that may be related to this and has been doing a lot of referrals to neurology for it.  My niece has developed a bizarre neurological condition that I can't remember the name of but it's similar to Tourette Syndrome.  After trying several things that didn't help, her neurologist put her on marijuana gummies and greatly helps with the symptoms for a few hours.

Obviously correlation does not equal causation.  That girl does love her some TikTok though.

She gives a whole new meaning to the 'tic' part of tiktok

So you're FOR the gov't banning our speech?
.
The idea of banning any website or platform is hilarious.  The people would have a work-around the very next day and/or all flock to a different platform officially produced by a different country, but being used as a shell for China and/or the people creating their own platform.
.
"Shut it down" is an antiquated idea that is a waste of time.

For a while now I’ve kept my own notes on how far back Facebook has fallen in terms of youth engagement. My 57-year old pastor was telling us the other day how his favorite facebook group is called “Growing Up Gen X” where his peers relive collective childhood memories from the 70s/80s.

Meanwhile his three teenagers are all on TikTok. It was only 12 or 13 years ago when I was in college and every last student in my dorms spent 3 or 4 hours a day on Facebook. Logging in now reminds me of going to a KMart I shopped at, seemingly out of pity, in 2018. It was still there to be shopped at but it was too late hide its obvious decline and impending irrelevance.

youre way off on this

the banning is not of free speech but foreign espionage

before you run your mouth you should make an effort to learn the facts

Everyone knows what tictok is.  You're not making a strong point, you're making a "duh" point.
