So this is something honest, I’ve never truly understood the damage that did to a person. Like was tar a euphemism for something really sticky? Or is it actually super hot tar? The latter always felt sort of grotesque.
Hot tar, and usually followed with "riding the rail".

My wife had me drive her up to Phipp's Plaza this afternoon.  Then back of course, I'm not used to driving in traffic any more, it was pretty bad, 3 PM.  On the way back, we had a car in front of me headed the wrong way on a one way street.  Fortunately everyone stopped and let her turn around.  I'm sure we get a lot of out of towners who miss the signage.

I don't care for shopping malls, this trip cost me a bracelet at Tiffany's.

Scrabble with kids is finally fun once they are both 10+.   We had a hilarious effort to play buttwiper tonight.

Sitting in my deer stand, waiting on sunrise. When we leave here we’ll watch a little college football. Tomorrow we duck hunt. Damn I love the fall.

About what year did some college teams start signaling the offensive plays from the sideline?

Often wondered that myself. And when did the coaches start using headsets and the whole game coordination get so sophisticated.

A quick google search claims it started with Woody Hayes at OSU in 1967.

All the way into the 1950s, the coach calling plays was against the rules.  The QB/captain handled that responsibility all the way up until then.  They had rules on and off that prevented coaches and backups from even standing on the sidelines, walking along them, etc.  It was forbidden.
.
One thing loosely tied to this that I don't think most people realize is that college football went 2-platoon (off/def) with unlimited subs for a time ('47-'52), but resorted back to single-platoon for about a decade after that.  Kind of bizarre.

Cool website with a snapshot of pro and college stadium layouts, circa 1956.
