Life is not fair.  Sometimes people lie about things when they see advantage.  And at times there can be no recourse.  Most of it understand this and regret it and suck it up.

No shit, sherlock.
I'm just sharing.
I looked up the penalty for lying on an auto insurance claim and all I found was that your insurer may drop you.  That's it.
.
Anyway, I'm hoping that he's an idiot and I sent him a threatening text saying I'm going to seek legal action unless he fesses up.
It'll be worth it to go ask if they have camera footage.
When it happened, I was just glad he didn't speed off.  We got out, talked, and exchanged information.  What a waste of time.  He might as well have sped off....same outcome.

I’ll agree to disagree.

Not that I don’t think he’s a schmuck. But die screaming is a high bar.

Twitter, to me, is a quasi-public utility - like Verizon, the power companies, cable companies, etc.

One of those is unregulated, and one of those has (had) a portal to censor, if you're on the right team.

Imagine a staunch conservative bought an unregulated Verizon and took away all the phones belonging to liberals.
So, while it might feel like a utility, it isn't really. If Twitter shut down tomorrow, relatively few people’s lives would be worse. I get the desire to socialize business that irks us, but it’s not a vital service and is in fact, super replaceable.

Multiple Twitter spin-offs already exist. They’re failing because they’re run badly, but you could make them work.

The last bit is tricky because it reflects narrative and story more than reality. there are millions and millions of people on Twitter who are conservative tweeting out things to their conservative hearts content. And there are liberals who get banned and or shut down for saying stupid and gross stuff (or just stuff that offends someone who reports them). And there’s a general content moderation problem which is that it’s never gonna really work that well at scale. so the argument is that you would need Verizon to take away the cell phones of some people who broke whatever rules Verizon could set up, but maybe not others. (Also, I think ISPs actually can do what you suggested, after a push for more regulation failed)

In the end, Twitter is just a business that collects and sells a lot of people‘s data and holds a weird place in society because a lot of famous people with brain worms are obsessed with it.

Tar and feather.
So this is something honest, I’ve never truly understood the damage that did to a person. Like was tar a euphemism for something really sticky? Or is it actually super hot tar? The latter always felt sort of grotesque.

The entire news industry relies on it now.  As do people ages 25-35.  Yes, it would be replaced, but everyone would have to do that en masse, which would take some time, as they'd all have to kind of agree to land on the same power line, a la a flock of birds.

we could all get by w/o Twitter and/or Facebook

youtube, ESPN, or other popular media outlets

there would be some wailing, but not like your internet, electrical power, water/sewer, natural gas, or gasoline provider.

you know, real utilities

Well if it helps a bunch of brain wormed reporters do their jobs more poorly, then by all means make it a big deal

How many times have WE done that with this group of people here?
