I have a tiny, positive thing to share about ESPN.  They obviously almost always suck, but here's a nice thing they chose to do:

on the video on espn.com showing San Jose State making a big #6 for a recently deceased teammate, there was no ad preceding the video.  Good on them.

Wow, the AP writers REALLY wanted a 1 vs 2 matchup next weekend.
Tennessee tied with OSU at #2.
Because reasons.

The last 2 are fine.

A person's medical care and their standing in a court of law should absolutely not be income-specific.  I know this, you know this, we all know this.  But it's just ignored and shrugged at.

why are the last two fine if the first two are not?

Do ... you think there was some intentionality with that tie? Or just that people are over-gassing UT?

I think just enough writers care that a 1 vs 2 matchup makes everyone 0.1% more money than a 1 vs 3 matchup.

Because nice cars and houses are optional luxuries.  Quality medical care and a fair shake in the court system SHOULD BE rights for everyone.  I'd argue housing should be, too.
But in terms of a fancier house or a car, no, that's not a need.

A lot of things SHOULD be in life, and aren't.

I can't imagine why sportswriters would care about TV ratings, of why TV ratings would be higher for 1v2 anyway.  But I suppose it's possible there was a conspiracy.

And of course, aside from luxuries, wealthy folks are going to have access to better education, better personal safety, better access to Power, etc. etc. than poor people.

Even in France, this is true, and even there it's true for health care as well.

I'm not going to "worry" about how some gaggle of sportwriters voted for the AP Top Ten, it seems trivial to me.  I'm sure some out there see dark and nefarious motives behind such things when it plausibly is just random variation with no intent.  The Vols had an impressive looking win, so they got a bit more credit.

Seeing patterns is one of our best, and worst, traits.  Our brains are built for it, for better or worse.

Humans often perceive patterns in random numbers, and random events.  This gives rise to superstitution etc.  And it's a way to "explain" the unexplainable.  We had a drought, it was because the gods are punishing us.  If I wear THIS shirt, my team will win the game.

The value of "e" is 2.7182818284590452353602874713527   ,,, if you only know the red part, you think the black part will continue.

Imagine lending money at a 100% interest rate, compounded every year. After one year, your money would double. But what if the interest rate were cut in half, and compounded twice as often? At 50% every six months, your money would grow by 225% in one year.

As the interval gets smaller, the total returns get slightly higher. If interest is calculated n times per year, at a rate of 100%/n, the total accreted wealth at the end of the first year would be slightly greater than 2.7 times the initial investment if n is sufficiently large.

I'm sure you understand that wealthy folks in France don't use the national health care system.

Sweden has more billionaires per capita than the US.

We were in St. Tropez for a couple days, it's pretty amazing the yachts one sees docked there, and the BIG ships are out in the bay too large to dock.
