I've never had a cavity.  True story.

The only one that I ever had was in a baby tooth. They just yanked it right out.

The trial of Darrell Brooks is something else.  Pro se defendant, unhinged and simply out of time at this point. His tactics were disgraceful.

I worked in this DAs office, back when the Judge today was there and the DA was helping guys like me figure their way around the courts.  Their patience and management of this trial have been remarkable to say nothing of the court reporter.

Jury is out now,  sifting through about 150 pages of verdict forms and and 100+ pages of jury instructions.

I don't expect any outcome but guilty, given the footage and motivation.

I never cared for all the 'lawyers are bad' jokes.....until I sat in and heard a defense attorney speak.
The guy was friends with the other lawyer.
He was "just doing his job."
The defendant was guilty, but he had to put up some kind of defense.
.
He busts out with "yes, she was abducted at knife-point from her front door, but her life was never in danger."
All of my hatred and ire towards the defendant went right to the lawyer who uttered those words.  It took all I had not to yell out, "let me drag your wife from your front door, kicking and screaming at knifepoint at 4 am and you tell me her life isn't in danger!"
.
But yeah, since then, all the lawyer jokes seem too polite.  Fuck that guy.

Not since 1853.
One person has been executed in WI history since 1848.  As noted, no penalty since 1853.

I try not to generalize off the words of one person across a far larger group of folks.

In fact, I'm against ALL over generalizations.

The point is that it was ho-hum.  If it wasn't him, it'd have been somebody else.  He knew the guy was guilty, that wasn't the question.  It was a sentencing hearing.  But he had to 'do his job' and say something.
.
When doing your job includes defending dipshit criminal human garbage, maybe don't pick that job.  When your defendant is out on parole and immediately does something horrible and stupid, and his mother is begging for a 9th chance, it's a deranged profession.  Idiot had a facial tattoo, so it was immediately identifiable.
.
The entire system is corrupt anyway.  The more money you make, the less likely you'll be punished for your transgressions.
That is a broken system.
