I think I could name quite a few nations never "totally destroyed by war", and the US has been significantly damaged in a war, part of it anyway.

But I think it true that Russians at a core level are paranoids, and even paranoids have enemies.  That doesn't justify their attack on Ukraine in my view of course, but it speaks to why many Russians appeared to be supportive of that (granted their "news" was perhaps not all that credible).
Well almost every nation has experienced war on their shores. Except for the US. Yeah, we had a civil war- but that was us doing that to each other. And some southerners still don’t like northerners because of it.

I mean aside from Japan bombing a US territory and a terrorist attack, America hasn’t really ever experienced war on its shores.

America is basically brand new in the scheme of things, and it might be the only nation on the planet that has never been basically totally destroyed by war. We’ve been very lucky that we haven’t really been touched by war and it’s devastation on our shores.
Conflict is a human condition, obviously, but to claim every nation but ours has been basically totally destroyed at one time is clearly false.

The Western Hemisphere has avoided much of the destruction.  It hasn't been without its problems of course, but nothing like what has gone on in Europe, Asia, and Africa over the ages.

Of course, the native Americans (and native South Americans) would argue that their nations actually were totally destroyed.  If there were enough of them left to be heard.

So my first statement is actually incorrect.

Putin’s core motivation for invading Ukraine was greed for territory and the resources within.  He dressed it up as self defense from Nato expansion, Russian nationalism, and even tried to sell it as a liberation of Ukrainians from Nazis.  But now its mostly about his and his regime’s survival.

I'm not going to pretend to get into the mind of a killer, but I think there is definitely more than just greed for gaining territory and resources. That's definitely a part of it. As is NATO expansion right up to their borders. As is the US trying to rip Ukraine out of Russia's sphere of influence by helping stage a coup and install a puppet gov't in Ukraine in 2014. There's a lot of moving parts, history, and context to this thing. No wars of aggression are ever justified. That's why pretty much every single one from the dawn of time has had propaganda that's helped to sell it/push it. No different than the US propaganda during all our wars in the middle east that "they hate us for our freedom and McDonalds and because we're so AWESOME GUIS!" or that whole "WMD's in IRAQ!". Putin is full of shit with his propaganda to justify his war of aggression- but that's just par for the course when it comes to war in general.

the “it was a long time ago, forget about” argument that Americans try to always say about everything is a massively stupid one.

do people really think Native American tribes will ever forget about being conquered and wiped out? Or Jews will just forget about the holocaust? Has anyone seen how aggressive and hostile Israel is to any nation who even hints at threats? They do not fk around even a little bit.

America is basically brand new in the scheme of things, and it might be the only nation on the planet that has never been basically totally destroyed by war. We’ve been very lucky that we haven’t really been touched by war and it’s devastation on our shores.
So America is brand new and because Napolean attacked Russia in 1812 & Hitler in 1941 that gets Vlad a pass at brutally attacking his neighbor totally unprovoked for his own ulterior motives.Makes perfect sense, political science major you are.

Mdot, you would do well to stop listening to whatever Kremlin propaganda mill that you're getting your talking points from.

Vlad's 2022 invasion of Ukraine was proof that if you appease a bully, he's going to keep coming. And it's funny you reference the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Both were and are gigantic strategic blunders. For the Japanese, it got the Americans fully and unequivocally into World War II with a huge rallying point instead of keeping them out of the war for as long as possible. For Vlad, he thought the Russian army was going to roll into Kyiv in three days and install a Kremlin stooge. I guarantee he thought the entire populace of Kyiv would greet the Russian army with cheers and kisses, not Molotov cocktails.

Even if a negotiation involves not voluntarily giving up Crimea, the Russian army looks utterly unable to hold it, or it's water supply. I've been in homeless encampments that were in better condition than what passes for Russian army barracks.

I'm not trying to make a political post that bothers anyone or anything....this absolutely not about party vs party, as I initially suggested his party nominate someone else (anyone else), but I have to ask:

as Herschel Walker goes down a laundry list of ways to screw up, prove to be out of his depth, and reach unprecedented levels of hypocrisy, how is he still in a tight race?!????

What are these people voting on?  If a candidate can literally be the opposite of everything you want him to be, is there any point where they don't vote for him?!?  I see no valid reasoning here.  What am I missing??

Don't know anything bout Hershel Walker's political career, so can't comment on that.

In semi-related news, wasn't Tom Osborne a congressman or something?
