Cool list, I never heard of "scrummy oysters".

Around here, I'd say Peachtree Street, or one of'em, or maybe Ponce de Leon these days.  we are hosting a French couple next week for a week, we're noodling where to take them.  The lady is an artist of some note.  I have not met her new husband.  Definitely on the platter is fox Bros. BBQ and Canoe, a nice restaurant with a beautiful garden overlooking the river.  We'll do Hattie B's chicken if we can get in without a lengthy wait.  My wife suggested a symphony, but apparently they are booked that weekend (and tickets are pricey anyway).

This is the same lady that showed us around New Orleans as she claimed to know where to get great good.  We were both unimpressed.

A similar list would be "things to do" in major US cities one might overlook.

I feel sorry for people that can't come up with a better place to vacate than some gigantic, soul-sucking city. Particularly when they already live in one.

Which Peachtree Street? IIRC there are at least 20 of them in Atlanta alone.

Obviously, it hinges on one's interests.  Some large cities has things that are of interest to me, and others of course.  I've had good times in NYC and LA and SF.  I had a pretty good time recently in Paris, better than in some of my previous visits.  Boston was pretty neat, I thought.  We're headed to Vancouver next month, and I'd like to visit Montreal.  Copenhagen is up there in my view as places to visit.  My first two visits to Honolulu were a bit down, but our last trip there turned out great, it depends on what you see and your own interests obviously.  My guess is another visit to NO might be a lot better than my first two, but I'm turned off on that place.

Havana was much dumpier than I expected and Rio was as well, though Rio obviously had some nice areas, and some incredible slums.

That was my point, but in reality there is only one "Peachtree Street", there are over 20 others named Peachtree walk, road, industrial blvd, way, lane, circle, etc.

I think CD has just been faking being retired all these years and actually works for the Atlanta Tourist Bureau.

I don't know if my links encourage tourism, I just find the photos neat, personally, perhaps others do not.  We like to walk around and have watched this and other places being built, it's rather amazing to me what humans can do when not blowing things up.

I read that an efficiency apartment there goes for $2K a month, which is quite high for this area.

that's why I like the suburbs my dude. you can be close to the cool big cities that become soul-sucking when you live in them- but are cool to visit every once in awhile.

The big cities do become soul-sucking having to live in them everyday. But also just refuse to and can't do the country bumpkin life style....EW, GROSS, and no thanks. The 'burbs are where it's at imo.

I lived most of my life in the suburbs.  I found them good for raising kids.  I've lived some on a farm (my grandparents, a few weeks each summer).  That has some appeal fo me also, but it's hard work and can get boring.  I've lived the past four years amidst a pretty large city and I find I like it best at this point in my life.

But with kids, having a nice yard was a great asset, and having suburban items like sports and a rec center and good schools was essential for me.

Oddly enough, before I met my wife, I figured to retire somewhere rural on about 25 acres and have a lot of dogs.
