gee, where did a community organizer who never held a real job in his life and only made $400k a year if that in his guv-ment job get the scratch to buy $20 million home on 30 acres in one of the richest neighborhoods in 'Merica.

have to love high level federal guv-ment in 'Merica. take care of the big $$$$ interests when you're in office- and they'll take care of your ass soon as you get out.
Same way Dick Cheney weaseled out of serving in Vietnam yet got billions later in defense contracts. In Iraq/Afghanistan

But just how Cheney got rich deserves some scrutiny. As secretary of defense, Cheney oversaw one of the largest privatization efforts in the history of the Pentagon, steering millions of military dollars to civilian contractors. Two and a half years after Cheney left his federal job, he began cashing in on the very contracts that he helped initiate.

Saw a blurb on the national news this morning about the immigrants being bussed to Chicago, DC, and other non-traditional immigrant states. You want sanctuary cities, you got it.

Cry me a River.
That stunt is really a rather gloomy look into the future of our national dialogue.

Ahh well, we’ll be fed the anger-filled amusement we desire.

(And before someone reads that wrong, I’ve no beef with immigrants ending up in cities that are held up for narrative purposes, nor would I be if they landed in cities that weren’t)

Martha’s Vineyard, population 17K, had 50 illegal immigrants dropped off.

Del Rio, TX, population just under 35K, has had 50K illegal immigrants this year.
A decade of Victory over Penn State.

All in since 1969

It's not a stunt. It's a message, and it's unfortunate. I don't like it, but I completely get it.

None of those (terrible) leaders up North care about the border until a bus shows up, and then they bitch about the governors of Texas, Florida and Arizona?

They should be bitching at the true cause! Maybe take a trip down to witness what's happening? Or just welcome them into your supposed sanctuary chitty with open arms?

The Border Czar doesn't seem to have any ideas. I heard her just this past weekend state (with a straight face) that the border is secure.

In the case of Chicago, the mayor (for now) immediately had the last bus shipped to a conservative wealthy suburb - also without warning.

Hypocrisy.

I'll admit I didn't have "Sitting governor publicly bragging about 54 counts of conspiracy to kidnap" on my 2022 bingo card.

Ha!

I also didn't have "Crowd-funded bombers in a war zone" for 2022, but sure enough, it's happening in Ukraine.

Crazy times we live in.

Touche. I don't think either of us had "Russian army exposed as paper tigers" either.

I actually thought they might be. A good number of their soldiers didn't even want to be there, which was evident from the start.

Now if we could only stop funding the war and take care of our own!

If it's a message, it's not one aimed at the other side. Let's put it this way, if some folks in opposition to you tried to send a message that way, there's not much chance it would resonate, most likely it would harden you.

In another sense, you point out, this hasn't actually triggered much response of "Oh God, now these illegals are here." The complaint has been "Wow, that's a gross, weird stunt." In some cases, they have been welcomed (we'll get to Chicago later). It does nothing to change people's thoughts on the border. At all. And if it did, it wouldn't do so in two days.

Now, this is in some ways a message to the base. It gives the base some har hars. A chance to sort of jump the gun about the response and remember that we'll be fed "we'll fight for you" culture war slop going forward. And the other side will almost assuredly do the same, thus dividing us all for the mirthful fun of it.

The Chicago part is quite illustrative. Sending more illegals to Chicago is ... theater and little else. The city/region has plenty of illegal immigrants. Just about no one in that city is saying "Oh gosh, someone from the other side of the border, never seen one of them." (No one who's gonna see the new group anyway) It's just theater to give the base a chance to chuckle at a juvenile burn. The Mayor proved she's not above such juvenile things. She did her own stunt. And the only message it sent was that the person organizing that busing to the burbs is a real asshole (which she is!).
