The first test flight of the F-15 was in 1972, so the basic design is over 50 years old.  It became operational in 1975.

They’re still making new ones, F-15 EX, there are whispers that the military prefers it over the F-35.

But they’re all built for different purposes. Mainly to defeat the USSR in a war that never came.

I always imagined our F class as being like Orcas and foreign Migs and such as quick, little sharks.  They can turn on a dime and hurt you, but ours are massive death machines.  Is that accurate?

But when did it become... FULLY operational?

No, that is not remotely accurate today.

Crop dusters are pretty complex aircraft actually, I flew Cessnas of the simplest type available.  Russian fighters often are designed to LOOK a lot like our fighters, but they come in different types, just as do ours.  The MiG-25 is something quite different of course, large, enormously powerful and fast, and built to intercept a bomber we never built (past 4 prototypes).  The MiG-29 is pretty similar to our F-15 in many respects, a difference is the quality of our avionics and radars.

I remember my brother telling me that the Russians somewhat copied F-15 Tomcat. However they had egg on their face when they incorporated the landing gear for carrier based models for their land based ones. Not really understanding what that function was. This evidently was in the mid'70s. He was in the NAVY,later another bro recruited him into the Air Force.Prolly to meet his recruit quota for a new set of clubs or sum such

F-14 Tomcat, the F-15 is the Eagle.  I don't know of a Soviet plane that attempted to copy the former.

During WW 2, Stalin ordered copies of the B-29 to be made, exactly, and they were, down to having English screws and markings on the dials.

Damaged B-29s would sometimes land in Russia and be interned after a strike on Japan.

Artemis is scrubbed for today.  And the press keeps repeating the mantra "NASA's largest rocket ever", which is a lie.  Yes, it does have more thrust at launch, but it is not as capable as the Saturn V, which could put almost 50 tons into lunar orbit.  SLS Block 1 can only throw about 30 tons into LO.

Is that because the rocket mass is higher than Saturn V?  That would make it the "largest rocket ever" even if it's less capable.
