I'm not so much against what they are trying to do, but I'm against continual and permanent deficit spending, which is what we have chosen to do for 20 plus years, with one or two years of balanced budgets/surplus, and then 30+ years before that.  So 50+ years of permanent and continual deficit spending, and then we are going to fix the country's problems with more deficit spending to cover-debts taken on by other people.

With regards to the deficits I just can't grasp how it can just go on and on with no end in sight.  I understand that we pay on the debt every year, but at some point we need to have a reckoning.  And it's a charade with the politicians.  When the Dems are in power, the Repubs scream about social programs and then this and that and how much the deficit is going to be but when they repubs are in charge it's the same f'n thing.

What it boils down to in my mind is one thing-somebody, someday will have to pay.  And it probably won't be the truly wealthy people, because the tax code is so screwed up and riddled with loop holes and all that garbage that there will always be a way out.  The poor can't pay, because they don't have much in the first place.  It will be the middle class, as always.  Expected to give the tax breaks for the rich, and pay for the things the poor need.

I made $21.45 in my first job out of college, working the 2nd shift at Applied Materials outside of Austin, in 2001.  I thought it was good money back then.  So I guess that would have been $44.6K per year.  This was right before 9/11 and the very beginning of the internet bubble, so things got slow fast and I ended up leaving before getting laid off.  Plus, I was looking to return to my home area.

I graduated debt free, with help from my parents and working part time, from A&M in 2001.  I drove old vehicles, lived in cheap apartments, and in general lived as cheap as I could.

Relatively speaking, it was good money!

On the second part, I got a good, if obvious bit of advice from an academic advisor that I talked to some in college (I mostly just asked him what to do with an econ degree, which I give him a B- at answering). But he made the point, "How much money you make matters, but if you can manage to spend less, that's the key." A lot of people, even folks of older generations, don't see that as clearly as they should.

When it comes to making money, I harken back to an old Kiss song that I really liked.

Reminds me of this:

I 85 Atlanta bridge collapse happened 5 years ago | 11alive.com

Ultimately it took GDOT crews about six weeks to rebuild the interstate. In April 2018, the National Transportation Safety Board deemed that the Georgia Department of Transportation was at least possibly responsible for the collapse – due to the decision to store construction materials under the bridge, failing to realize the risk.
The disaster became a case example for the Federal Highway Administration to warn other states not to store flammable material under bridges.
Meanwhile, the man who was experiencing homelessness at the time and accused of starting the fire emerged out of a legal saga in 2020, graduating from a court-mandated behavioral and drug abuse program and beginning a search for a new job.

Infrastructure. Noun. That which very few people care about until it stops working.

 • You are now operating a Carnot engine at 40% efficiency, which exhausts heat into a heat sink at 298 K. If you want to increase the efficiency of the engine to 65%, to what temperature would you have to raise the heat reservoir?
 • A Carnot engine absorbed 1.0 kJ of heat at 300 K, and exhausted 400 J of heat at the end of the cycle. What is the temperature at the end of the cycle?
 • An indoor heater operating on the Carnot cycle is warming the house up at a rate of 30 kJ/s to maintain the indoor temperature at 72 ºF. What is the power operating the heater if the outdoor temperature is 30 ºF?
