Disagreement isn't always outrage, you know.
Update: Sure seems like some outrage is getting mixed in.

I get outraged often when others appear to be outraged.

Fact-based discussion is not outrage, my friend.

I'm not outraged at all by this crap. Let's start with utter disappointment with a BS policy.

Back to tuition:

That is huge, and CDawg is correct on his assertion that the availability of loans has greatly influenced this.

I definitely feel like higher education should be way more affordable. Not sure how I feel about canceling $10k in student loans. Let's be honest here anyway, most people that went to college are in debt WAY more than $10k.

Feel like the really important fields- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) should be free for those that make the cut. I say invest in the brightest and best. Probably medical and finance as well. You know...things that actually produce income earners that can pay into the system, make $$$, and spend the money they make into the economy at large. Invest in those people. All day long.

Any asshole dope woke loser that wants to get some bullshit degree in trans dance theater or whatever can pay for it themselves.

Gov't backing the loans just means so much garbage and fat gets pumped into the system and these universities jack up rates and pay administration ridiculous salaries.

“Where’s my handout like those losers?” feels like outrage.

Utter disappointment about BS sounds like outrage. If you’d like, I can reassess and change the word outrage to angst and irritation.

(The house thing feels like a pretty tenuous comparison that’s not going to go anywhere other than saying, people should pay their debts back. To carry the metaphor out, the US should repossess a bunch of sociology degrees and sell them at auction, which is honestly amusing)

Very good.

A lot of old social norms need to fall: the need for a college degree, the emphasis from employers on those degrees, the deemphasis on skill work, the insistence on leaving home at 18, and also, honestly, the stories told to folks under 18 about paying one’s way through college.

Employers are huge on apprenticeships now. It's a new wave, and a good one.

So China has taken Hong Kong and next they will take Taiwan.
China can't really take Taiwan, as virtually the entire world has agreed since 1949 that Taiwan = China. Pretty much like 99% of the 200+ countries in the world officially recognize that Taiwan is part of China- including the United States.

Taiwan is less than 100 miles from the coast of mainland China and was the staging ground for the Japanese to invade and destroy China multiple times. So yeah, they aren't letting Taiwan go without a major fight. As much as I hate China, this one ain't our battle or fight. Not our problem.

Hong Kong was also a part of China for like ever- until the most imperialistic murdering f*cks in history- the British- took it by force- over the sale of drugs. Again, as much as I hate China, that one ain't our battle or fight either. Not our problem.

There are a lot of people who are pretty upset about this cancellation, and it's not all people like some of us.

Anyone think minorities living in poverty are on board with bailing out Susie and her parents, because she/they chose a degree in humanities? Susie blissfully giggled her way through college and she's sad now. But her parents are so proud that she has that degree, and the 2.2 GPA and all that.

These are the kinds of people this is helping the most - those making enough money to pay. It's not helping people who really help. This is a vote grab, period.

Check this out:

Citing a recent analysis from a group of economists and data scientists at the University of Pennsylvania, known formally as the Penn Wharton Budget Model, CBS News’ Aimee Picchi noted the plan would cost around $300 billion in the first year. The cost is likely to balloon if stretched out across a longer period of time.

"The benefit of erasing billions in college loans would mostly go toward Americans higher up the income ladder, the analysis also found. More than two-thirds of the debt forgiveness would help people in the top 60% of the income distribution — or those who earn $82,400 or more per year," Picchi wrote.

Forgiving $10,000 in student debt could cost the U.S. $300 billion - CBS News
