Working Americans pay income taxes — why don’t billionaires? | The Hill

Families can continue to avoid taxes forever by using this ‘buy, borrow, die’ strategy: holding onto their assets without selling, borrowing against them for income and using the loophole at inheritance that allows billionaires to pass on the increased value of their assets to heirs tax-free.

are we back on the kick millionaires in the nuts subject

if we start taxing millionaires unfairly they will just pull their investments and move to a friendlier local

right now over 70% of taxes paid comes from high income folks

the amount of borrowing for millionaires is approx $68 billion which is not a lot when looking at the entire tax levied each year

this is a non issue but the dems keep bringing it up for political gain

Not millionaires, but billionaires, who really do dodge taxes the way I've explained several times here.

I don't think this is a way to get at them though, and it would be a pain to implement.  The tax people would be happy.

Europe tried this some years back, nearly every country reversed course.

they reversed course cause a lot of the billionaires left

This is not a one way street billionaires create jobs and contribute to the economy in many other ways

are we trying to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs here

millionaires and billionaires are created by capitalism - so far a better system hasn't been proven

and no, our system isn't perfect, but I blame the politicians for that

I prefer the terms "free markets" versus "central planning".  I prefer the former to the extent possible.

I don't think this effort to tax billionaires would either work or raise much revenue.
