Ships in line at Port of Savannah, Ga. back to record numbers, with cargo diverted from West Coast (ajc.com)
Yeah, we are looking at cars right now (son is getting his license next week....you've now been warned).  So we are shopping for cars.  Originally, we were thinking of giving him a piece of junk car, but even crap car prices are through the roof right now.  The plan has somewhat morphed into letting him use my wife's old car (which he learned to drive on) and then getting the wife a new (or recently used) electric car.

But there is almost nothing available right now on new car lots.  Alot of the websites show replacement (and cheaper) cars coming, but they are currently "In transit", aka, sitting on a container ship and haven't gotten through customs yet.

Yeah, that is also part of the problem.  Wife wants an electric car, as said.  But:  A)  No new electric cars on lots (stuck on ships).  B)  Many cars from 2020 / 2021 / 2022 still have that faulty battery, which means that they are not allowed to be sold by used car lots until the battery problem is fixed, and the parts to fix those batteries are on those same ships stuck in the harbor.  C)  Anything older than that already has 50,000 miles on it, and is still bloody expensive, which is not exactly a great situation.

We might be back to plan "A" of finding the crappiest car we can get for the kid and then just wait out the supply chain issues for my wife's new car that she will get in a couple of years when her current car dies.

Any grandparents that are looking to get out of a car (or stop driving altogether)?

My folks are both 80+ now, and in the next couple of years, we're probably going to have to take their keys away...

Yuuuup.  I'm just as guilty.
The wife wants an obnoxiously bright colored car for him so that it will be easier for people to notice him and decrease the odds of an accident by 1%.
The problem is that she also wants his car to have the newer safety features (brake assist, side / rear vehicle detection sensors, etc.), which are certainly becoming more common on new cars, but A) you might find a car with those safety features, but it will only be cheap because it has 120,000 miles on it already or B) you can get a cheap(er) car under 40,000 miles, but wont have the safety features .

All of the poor neighborhoods in Phx are full of those Challengers.  I don't understand why, but it's a fact.

Unfortunately, yes, that is exactly the color of car she would prefer to get.

If you happen to have one of those at 40k miles or less and are selling for less than 20k, feel free to contact me....;)
