Don't tell a lot of persons on both sides that.

I saw this floating around a bunch, and it left me with the question: How often is congress rolling through and codifying things that the Supreme Court decided? Is this a common thing? I feel like we would've heard about it.
"Gun control" has to ring a bell, no?

Anyway, the Dems have had numerous opportunities to Codify RvW and they did not. Shit, they could have done it when they rammed the unaffordable care act through. But they didn't. They could do it NOW, as they have control of the government, but they won't.

Do you know why?

I do.

The filibuster often is a good reason stuff doesn't pass the Senate.

The threat of a filibuster is rather often an impediment, which is why rather little passes the Senate.  The House is about to pass an "assault weapons ban" of sorts that has zero chance in the Senate.  The same is true for a lot of other bills the House passes.

Reconciliation can be used for some types of spending bills, the rules there are rather obscure.  I'm not a parlementarian.

and why would the house spend the time to pass something they know full well has zero chance in the Senate?

for the illusion or delusion that they are working for their constituents ??

messaging???

so they can point their fingers at the Senate and say how terrible they are - throwing mud?

Senate rules can be changed. Ask Harry Reid how he got the UACA passed.

Of course, political optics and pandering for votes.  It is pretty "funny" how many bills passed the House in this session and stood zero chance in the Senate.

A few stood a small chance, some of course got upended by Manchin.

There was a pseudo-gun control bill that did get passed because both Houses worked together on it, which resulted of course in more of a rather pointless piece of legislation, in my view.  They usually manage a budget bill often delayed with CRs.

I thought the Dems would at least undo some parts of the "Trump tax cuts", but they haven't even managed that.

Sure, they can, but there are impediments to that as well.  They have gradually increased the things than don't require cloture.

In my OPINION, this thread is interesting when folks share information/facts that others may have missed.  When it comes down to opinions alone on hot button issues, we each have our own, and won't change them because someone else voices a differing opinion, any more than we'd switch teams to support because someone else likes the Jayhawks.

But we can learn things about issues if folks focus more on facts and less on opinions.  At least, that is my opinion.
While I appreciate that you have an opinion on not posting opinions on this thread its my opinion that I'll post my opinion on something anytime I desire

If you dont agree with my opinion then please feel free to tell me why your opinion is different

course thats just my opinion

You’re saying that congress has gone in after the fact and passed laws that mirror the court’s ruling on gun control? Because that’s the thing we’re talking about.

(Is this conflating the filibuster thing with cabinet nominations in 2013 and the ACA thing in late 2009? The ACA got the 60 votes)

The only real question I have right now is just how the dems are going to go about charging Trump with inciting the Jan 6th protests

Its the whole purpose for the hearing and the only chance the dems have left

The big problem the dems have is trying to survive the backlash from the voters when they do this

Stay tuned

Can you explain a little more?  Are they going to charge him with something akin to being impeached?  Like congress has these special powers like censure and other things that are relatively unknown and seldom used (maybe never?).

Or are you referring to actual federal charges, prosecuted by a court?
