The SLS rocket is such a joke that it does not have enough power to land a combined Orion capsule with an Apollo style lander ( LM). There is another version in the works called block 2 that will be more capable and powerful and actually stronger than the Saturn V. Most don’t think it will fly before 2030, or never. It’s worth noting that Orion is much heavier than the old Apollo CSM.

The first Artemis mission will fly an empty capsule to the moon where it will stay for a few weeks. It will check out it’s systems etc. it is not equipped with life support systems. It will return to the earth and splash down.

Artemis II will fly a crewed ( manned!) capsule to the moon for the first time. It will be like Apollo 8 ( 1968 for those who remember). It will not launch no earlier than 2024. Artemis III, the manned landing, is slated no earlier than 2025. Most agree it will not take place before 2026 or 2027 if you look close enough to the details. AIII is the one that is supposed to use the SS lander.

I figure if a beer is improved with fruit, it wasn't very good beer in the first place.

My wife in on a kick of blending cheap rosé wine and grapefruit juice.  The combination is actually better than the rosé alone, but that is because the rosé is just bad wine.

The picture above compares the sizes of the landers. On the left is the original LM from the 60’s. Next are the two that nasa didn’t pick. SS, on the right, dwarfs them all.

I don’t think the public at large yet realizes how much capability we will have once we get to the moon. I have always been somewhat of a space nut, and I understand that the average person doesn’t care, but this is going to be a game changer for not just the United States but the world.

We will be able to do things at the moon that will be straight out of sci fi. A landed SS could immediately be turned into a permanent base. Other SS landed in close proximity could bring supplies. We could mine the moon. Do real exploration.

The longest stay on the moon was what nasa called the j missions. They were about 3 days, and they traveled a few km from the lm. Apollo 11 had an EVA that lasted only a few hours.
