It frosts my shorts big time.  I yell at the TV.  Even my wife knows better.  Now anyway.

I had a GF in grad school for a while, really nice gal, from Long Island, like the iced tea (which isn't really iced tea I discovered).  She invited me to go home with her for Thanksgiving and they'd have barbecued swordfish.  I thought on this a long time, endeavored to persevere, and realized it just wouldn't work.

She had glamorous legs and was blonde, a smart one.
Ernie Hemingway would have went even if they just had Sloppy Joe's

So if you're a Northern tourist passing through the South, and somebody offers you a coke, just remember—your options are wide open.
works well for me, I don't usually drink soda pop, but if I do it's a Coca-Cola

Quarter-pounder with cheese isn't the best burger on earth, but it's not the worst either.  And as far as nutrition, it's no worse nor better than a cheeseburger of similar size from any other place.

We rarely eat fast food, but on roadtrips it's pretty common for us, and McDonald's are ubiquitous.
didn't always use to be this way. I believe McDonald's changed the Quarter-pounder up within the last few years. They claim the quarter pounders are now never frozen, always fresh beef and cooked to order on a flat top griddle.

I've heard the same.  But even when they were frozen they were still 100% beef. Always tasted fine to me, better than plenty of other options out there and of course not as good as others.

For the ease, convenience, predictability, and price-- it's a slam dunk on a roadtrip with kids.

In France I could order a beer as the drink of choice to go with a Happy Meal.  I did this regularly, because I thought it was amusing.

It's a yankee thing in my experience.  Like pretty much everything else, yankees don't really know much about cooking or good food.
I think that's just most people in America in general. Most Americans don't know much about cooking or good food imo. Besides, what really is "American food" - it's mostly plain, simple bullshit like hotdogs, burgers, turkey, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, etc., etc.. The food in this country generally sucks compared to other countries imo.

I'd argue the best food in the US comes from the big northern cities that have big immigrant populations- who bring the flavor. Shitloads of Italians in Detroit, Chicago, NYC, etc.. Best middle eastern food you can find on planet earth outside of actually being in the middle east is in Dearborn, MI. And I'm a sucker for that kind of food. Holy shit I love it all.

over in Europe the McDonalds tastes better too. It's kind of wild. I think the EFSA  - the EU version of the US's FDA - is WAY more strict on what they allow. Which in turns leads to a much better quality and tasting product.

I don't know.  I haven't thought much about comparing McDonald's because it's all just junky fast food, but the beef I've had in France is much, much worse than even average beef in the US.  You have to order Agentine steaks to get high quality over there.

I'll put Texas Tex-Mex and BBQ up against anything the north has to offer

It's always going to come down to taste preference, which tends to be developed regionally.

Personally, I prefer flavors and dishes from the Far East, over the Middle East.  Traditional Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Thai.  I love all of them.  And you can find plenty of excellent examples of those down here in Texico, especially in Austin and Houston.
