It was fairly pleasant here yesterday, we had lunch outside down the street, midweek is going to be very hot apparently.

I'm a bit surprised how many houses have been demolished in the residential area north of us, and replaced with brand new homes that look to be in the $2+ million range.  A lot of the old houses date from a century ago and many are huge, but the smaller ones get bought and often torn down.  The smaller ones must cost a million plus, for the land.

I don't watch any network TV, not news, not shows, nothing.  My wife watches some Hallmark stuff and local news, that's about it.  I've noticed a LOT of political hit commercials lately, which is not a shock.  Some PAC entity puts on an entirely negative commercial about a candidate.  They say nothing about the one they appear to support.

My "rule" would be that no ad could mention the name of a political opponent.  Maybe that's a free speech violation, but it would be nice.  A negative ad would have to mention "my opponent wants to kill puppies", instead of the name.

My guess is that has zero chance of happening of course.  I despise negative ads.  That is one reason we end up with such poor choices so often, I think.

Unfortunately these ads attacking the other candidate are much more effective than the ones supporting your candidate.  Human nature and all that.

Yup. These ads are so dark and negative I'm not sure they are effective.  They aren't on me anyway.

Thoughts on the housing market?

Mine couldn’t be more generic:

With so many homes selling at steeply increased price tags these past 1 or 2 years, the risk is those recent homebuyers keeping up with costlier mortgages. A number won’t, b/c when the whole market has to pay $450k for every property that was only $315k only 4 years ago, there will inevitably be a percentage that do not keep up.

As for the suddenly cooling housing market, the demand seems spooked buy a 1) potential recession the 2) Federal Interest rates increasing 0.75 last week; the former speculative for now, but the latter being a tangible filter against more of the masses qualifying for a mortgage.

With housing demand cooling possibly faster than expected, a few scant price markdowns are already appearing on Zillow/Redfin listings across Arizona and Southern California, something that even 2 months ago was unfathomable.

My daughter sold her house in Columbus, OH for her move.  She told me her asking price was $199,000 and her second offer was $240,000, and she closed on that one.

She's now renting in Vancouver, BC.  The problem with renting is rent increases, but I suspect she sold near the peak.  We have two units active right now in our building out of 124 units.
