Saudi obviously has "oil to spare", and a relatively few barrels donated for cheap gasoline for locals is a low price to pay for stability.  They could sell those barrels, but don't.

The US is not in that situation and never will be.  We consume astonishing amounts of oil each day.  And most US oil production is off private land.  They have issues right now with labor and parts shortages, like everyone else.

The US should be back to 2019 levels of production in 2023 anyway.  More EVs could cut oil usage obviously, but not for a while.

Cadillac is going EV as well.  GM and Ford are going EV.  I was told all cabs in Copenhagen would be EVs by 2025 and all cars by 2030, though I think this means new vehicles.  We rode in a VW EV cab that was pretty nice overall.  It's coming, I'm just not sure how fast replacement will be.  That one is very hard to calculate, and these goals are just that.

I am GUESSING by 2035 most new cars in the US will be EVs, more than 50% and probably more than 80%.  That would start to reduce demand for oil, if it happens.

Some things just never change. 😅
During the Cold War, the Soviets had the habit of surreptitiously acquiring Western computer chips and using them in their own weapons systems because their own industry couldn't produce chips that are on par with Western technology and more importantly, performance. It's for this very reason that the Soviets were considered backwards and primitive simply because they couldn't match their Western counterparts in certain areas.
And now, the Ukrainians have revealed to the world that nothing has changed in the 3 decades since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
The Russians are apparently still unable to match the West, or even the Chinese, in the production of proper computer chips which are essential for the many high tech weapons in service today which are even more dependent upon computing power than 30 years ago. The only thing that had changed, was how the Russians acquired the needed Western chips for their weapons systems. They legitimately bought them before sanctions rolled in. They Russians are still entirely dependent upon the West for something as basic as the computer chips that form the heart of many of their high tech weapons. Even the Chinese have managed to become independent and produce their own chips which are on par, and even in some cases, outstripping their Western counterparts. As one example, it has to be remembered that the Chinese were the one who pioneered, and now have the lead in, 5G mobile telecommunications technology. Even some of their vehicles use Western engines and other components.
And how do we know this? The vast numbers of Russian equipment that had fallen into Ukrainian hands, such as this Pantsir S1/SA-22 Greyhound air defense system, has been taken apart and have all their secrets laid bare for all to see. And that was what they saw. A supposedly indigenously developed equipment that is chock full of, and entirely dependent upon, Western components and hardly anything Russian.
As we've said many times before, the Russians are having their technical secrets exposed to the West to see. And what is seen just makes an even bigger fool out of the Russians. They are still as backwards as their Soviet predecessors had been in the realm of electronics. 😂😂😂 ~Clorox.

I was talking with a buddy who carries some weight with the power company.

He used my street as an example.

There is a transformer behind my house with seven drops... now, I use two of those drops as I have separate meter on my barn... but... these transformers are designed for four, and five in a pinch.

Along the entirety of the run, every transformer is at or above rated capacity.  He said if three of us bought EVs, the system would fail.  There are likely 50 of us on this leg.

EV aint the solution yet.  It's gonna be a bigger problem than anything it solves.

I obviously don't know (and don't really care), I just posted this person's opinion for comment and thought etc.

I dont think so

Price of gasoline in Saudi Aribia right now is $2.30/gal

so someone needs to tell Saudi Arabia they need to raise their prices
someone needs to tell Texas to lower their gasoline prices

I think EV charging will have to be somehow regulated, e.g., charge only at night, when at home, at a charging station otherwise (which one presumes would have the capacity, though presumes is the operative term).  I read one piece that said the increment will be less than that provided by central air taking over.  I don't know if that is accurate of course, but it's a thought.  Of course, back then we burned a lot of coal.

And it's going to be a while before EVs reach the point of being a major load on the System, outside perhaps CA, and Europe.  Denmark seems to be managing "OK", I'm of course ignorant of their actual power situation beyond knowing they buy power from other countries often as not.  They had a fair number of wind turbines out in the sea.

Our building has a backup Diesel generator that powers the elevators and emergency lights etc., but not the units.  They run it every month or so when not needed I gather to keep it lubed or operative, whatever.  It makes some noise.  And it's a sizeable unit, probably 4'x10'x6' or so.

the most useful EV charger for home use today takes an 80amp circuit

the 110 chargers can take 30-40 hours to charge a vehicle
